COLD FLAT ROCK PRACTICE HEATS THINGS UP FOR NEW SEASON

Flat Rock, Michigan—April 20, 2013:  Despite a dusting of snow on the rooftops and the track surface in the morning, a hearty group of 47 race teams took laps at Flat Rock Speedway Saturday afternoon to prepare for the Jet’s Pizza Season Opener, which is set for Saturday, April 27.  The cold, bitter wind and snow flurries failed to halt the 5 hour practice session, which went off without any incidents.

A variety of race cars--Late Models, Figure 8’s, Street Stocks, Sportsman, Trucks, Enduro cars, Great Lakes Mini Cups and MCR Dwarf Cars zipped around the fast ¼ mile oval in preparation for the 2013 racing season.  The new-look Figure 8’s were sharp, as the class has the option to run without front fenders and nosepieces, giving the cars a Modified-type look.

The final practice session before opening night is set for Wednesday, April 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The pit area will open at 4 p.m.

Flat Rock Speedway will begin its 60th Anniversary season Saturday, April 27 with the Jet’s Pizza Season Opener, featuring the ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models, Parts Galore Figure 8’s and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks.

FLAT ROCK SPEEDWAY PRACTICE NOTES (4-17-13)

We are ready for our first open practice this Saturday, April 20.  The pit area will open at 10 a.m., and practice is from Noon to 5 p.m.

Pit passes are $15 each; age restriction in the pit area is no younger than12; minor’s release signed by both parents at registration.

Please do not go out into the far west end of the pits to park your rig!  Go no farther than the final concrete pad on the west end!

The grandstand will be open for spectators at no charge.  The pit area concession stand will be open.

ARCA memberships, tires and fuel will be available at practice. In the event of weather issues, we will at the very least tech cars and sell the above-mentioned items.  You may check the website at www.flatrockspeedway.com for weather updates.

IF we have a monsoon, we may opt to do nothing, but we won’t decide that until Saturday.  So plan on getting through tech, etc. this Saturday.

Wednesday, April 24 we will hold another practice from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The pits open at 4 p.m.

The track is in good shape, most of the new poles and catch fence in turns 3-4 are up, about 25 foot of the concrete wall in turn 2 has been replaced and we are making progress despite the crazy weather of the past 3-4 weeks.

Saturday, April 27 is the Jet’s Pizza Season Opener!  Pits will open at 1:30, practice at 3, time trials at 5 and racing at 7 p.m.  We will not wait for you to get through tech on opening night.  Please get to one of the practices, go through tech, get some laps and you will be ready!

**Our gate times may change after a few weeks of racing, depending on car counts, much like we did last season.

See you Saturday!
