INAUGURAL WINNER CICCONI ENTERS TOLEDO’S FASTEST SHORT TRACK SHOW IN WORLD

(TOLEDO, Ohio - June 11, 2013) - It all began in 2001--created by Toledo track management, the event has become one of the top open-wheel pavement races in the country.  And for the 2013 version of the All American Coach/Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness “Fastest Short Track Show in the World” at Toledo Speedway this Friday night, the Super Modified winner of that first race, “Liquid” Lou Cicconi of Aston, PA has filed his entry for this one-of-kind event.

The Adkins Glass MSA Winged Super Modifieds and the winged Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints (AVBBSS) will make the trip to Toledo’s ultra-fast ½ mile paved oval June 14.

Defending race winners for the All American Coach/Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness Fastest Short Track Show in the World are Canadian Mike Lichty in the MSA Super Modifieds and Illinois resident Jason Cox for the AVBBSS Sprints.  Both drivers are on the pre-entry list for Friday’s race.

Cicconi captured the very first Fastest Short Track Show race, held in 2001 for the Super Modifieds, which was sanctioned by the ISMA Super Modified group from 2001-2009 at Toledo.  The AVBBSS winner was Gary Fedewa, who has since retired

The MSA sanction entered the picture in 2010, with Tim Ice claiming the victory.  Ice, of Seville, OH has also indicated he will be at Toledo.  Tim also won the outlaw-Late Model Glass City 200 at Toledo in 2000, the track’s signature event.

The lists are filled with past winners of the Toledo races and champions of top events across the Midwest.   Hometown driver Jimmy McCune is entered for both divisions.  McCune won the 2011 Sprint Car portion of the classic.  3-time Toledo winner Jason Blonde returns in the #42 this season in the AVBBSS ranks, while 2011 MSA Toledo winner Bob Dawson joins Cicconi, Ice and Lichty as former winners that are scheduled to be at Toledo June 14.

Ageless veterans Hank Lower of Angola, IN and short-track innovator Randy Sweet of Kalamazoo, MI are both entered in the Sprinters.

Arriving early to see practice and perhaps be witness to the most exciting qualifying session at a short track in the nation is a must!  If the track record is to be broken this year, it will take an unprecedented effort!  In the 2011 time trials, an incredible lap of 12:389 was set by AVBBSS Sprint driver Charlie Schultz in a car fielded by Dick Myers.  Jason Cox came up just short in his bid for a new mark in the 2012 edition of qualifying, clocking in at 12:473.  The Super Modified record is 12:893, set by Chris Perley of Maine in 2009. Toledo’s track has been extremely fast so far in 2013, with new track records set by a pair of touring series events.

The speedway is conducting a pre-race ticket sale for the June 14 contest.   Race fans can save $5 per ticket by purchasing their tickets prior to race day.  The track will offer both reserved seating (with backrests) and general admission tickets for the advance sale.  Major credit cards are accepted for phone orders and on race day.  To obtain advance tickets, please call the track office at 419-727-1100 or the ticket order form may be downloaded from the track’s webpage.  The advance sale ends Thursday, June 13 at 5 p.m.  Ticket sales will resume at 3 p.m. race day when the track ticket office opens.

The pit area will open at 1, practice begins at 3 and the front gates will also open at 3.  The much-anticipated time trials hit the track at 5:30 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.  Log onto www.toledospeedway.com for further information and updates.  Like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/toledoflatrock or follow us on Twitter @toledospeedway.
