CHARLIE RYAN MEMORIAL AT SPARTAN UP NEXT FOR ARCA LATE MODEL GOLD CUP; 3 RACES IN 3 WEEKS FOR SERIES
(TOLEDO, Ohio - June 25, 2013) - The ARCA Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series will pay a visit to Spartan, MI (Lansing) Speedway for the Charlie Ryan Memorial 100 this Sunday, June 30.
With Saturday’s washout of the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 at Flat Rock, the Series will now see 3 races in the next 3 weekends. The Fair Memorial has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 6 at Flat Rock and now becomes part of the 60th Anniversary and Fireworks show at the ¼ mile paved oval. The following Friday, July 12, it’s back to Toledo Speedway for the Parts Galore 100.
The Spartan contest will feature local favorite Tim Ryan, Charlie’s younger brother and St. Johns, MI driver Scott Pemberton. Former Spartan track champions Jimmy Gallagher and Dave Stehouwer will battle current Gold Cup point leader Brent Jack and 2-time Gold Cup king Harold Fair Jr. Flat Rock Speedway regulars Derek Wiley, Jeff Vrsek, and Steve Cronenwett Jr. are entered, along with Toledo’s Nick Bailey, Mike Young and Indiana veteran Craig Everage and Ohioan Marcus Malcuit. Current Flat Rock point leader and 2011 Gold Cup champ Dennis Strickland is also entered. Several more entries are expected this week.
Ryan’s last race car, the red #24, has been restored and will be at Spartan June 30 as a tribute to “Chargin’ Charlie”.
Last season’s Spartan race was the first ARCA Late Model Gold Cup race held outside of Flat Rock and Toledo. Mike Luberda came home with the victory in the 100 lap main event.
The 100 lap contest will award the winner with $2000. The Charlie Ryan Memorial 100 race pays $500 to start.
The pit area opens at Noon, practice is at 2, time trials at 4:30 and racing begins at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 30. The race is part of Spartan’s “Sunday Slugfests”. The Spartan Stocks and Pony Stocks will also be in action for this special Sunday night show.
The remaining two races for ARCA Glass City Gold Cup include the Saturday, July 27 Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 at Flat Rock and the Series concludes at Toledo Friday, August 16 for the Miller Lite 100, a combination point race with the Main Event Racing Series.
A total of 3 provisional starting positions in the final points of the Series are set aside for the season-ending Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 presented by the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Francis Engineering at Toledo, which is set for Saturday, September 28 this year. The race will celebrate its Silver Anniversary in 2013.
