POWERFUL STORM WIPES OUT JOY FAIR MEMORIAL 100

Saturday's Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 at Flat Rock Speedway was cancelled when a powerful thunderstorm ripped through the grounds at 4 p.m.

Rougly 4 to 5 inches of rain fell in less than 90 minutes, flooding the track infield, pit area and parking lot.  The deluge was accompanied by high winds that knocked down several large billboards, splintered tree limbs and moved anything not anchored down.  Lightning struck the track scoreboard, a transformer on the north edge of the property and in the pit area.

The incredible force of Mother Nature was not a pretty sight as a full pit area took cover when the weather cell took a turn from the south and came directly at the track, then turned again and went directly westward.

A incredible field of 36 Late Models were at the track for the event.  The Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 will now become part of the track's 60th Anniversary show Saturday, July 6.

More details will follow soon.
