Toledo, Ohio—August 9, 2011:  July race winner JR Roahrig and 3-time Glass City 200 champ Steve Sauve have filed entries for the Friday, August 12 Grogan’s Towne 100 for the ARCA Allegiant Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series at Toledo Speedway.

 

Roahrig, the Plymouth, IN native, established at track record for the July 100 lap race at the Glass City oval, finishing the entire 100 laps in an incredible 27 minutes and 34 seconds.  With no yellow flags, the pace was extremely quick, as JR caught Dennis Strickland and passed him for the lead with 6 laps to go on his way to the victory in the #16 Blount Motorsports Dodge.  JR is riding high from his big win at the Summer Sizzler 100 at New Paris, IN Speedway last week.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - August 6, 2011) - A pair of rain showers and the continued threat of more rain didn’t stop Flat Rock Speedway from completing its race card Saturday night.  Chris Bailey Jr. took the 100 lap ARCA Truck Series win, Jeff Metdpenningen was victorious in the 250 lap Enduro race, Brad Turner was the winner of the ARCA Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder main and the brother duo of Rayce/Kyle Metdpenningen captured the Figure 8 Train feature event.

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 5, 2011) - Sunshine and blue skies visited Toledo Speedway for the start of the August 2011 race schedule Friday evening.  Dennis Whisman notched 2 feature wins and Dave Arnold Jr. took a victory and both drivers visited the Sun Drop Soda Victory Lane.  Parts Galore sponsored the night of racing at the ½ mile paved oval.

Eric Lee won his first Stan Yee Memorial race, and his third 150-lap feature at Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday. The win was the third race in the Allegiant Air Gold Cup Series. The 150-lapper at Flat Rock has been run all 16 years of the Gold Cup Series. Only three drivers have won the 150 more than once ... Bill Steinhilber with four wins and Lee and Dave Kuhlman with three each.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - August 1, 2011) - In 1981, a group called the IRA Super Modifieds visited Flat Rock Speedway’s ¼ mile paved oval.  And now, after a 30 year absence, the Midwest Super Modified (MSA) Association will invade “The Rock” for their first-ever appearance.  The slow-slung, winged creations will shoot to break the absolute track record Saturday, August 20.

Race fans will also have the opportunity to meet NASCAR driver David Ragan, the winner of the July NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway and the pole sitter for last weekend’s Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Ragan is in the area for the NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway, where he will pilot car owner Jack Roush’s #6 Ford.

For many of the MSA Super Modified drivers and teams, this will be their first trip to the lightning-fast, 2-groove bowl.  Current point leader Trent Stephens, Lou Cicconi, Charlie Schultz, veteran Bobby Dawson and Tim Ice are all set for this big event.  Canadian hot shoe Mike Lichty is also expected to be at Flat Rock.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 30, 2011) - With 4 cars under a blanket at the finish, Eric Lee pulled off an exciting and thrilling victory in Saturday night’s Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by CGS Imaging at Flat Rock Speedway.  Pat Moran of Moran Chevrolet presented the traditional Gold Cup to Eric, while Ann Yee, Stan Yee Sr.’s widow, awarded the 5 foot trophy to Eric in victory lane ceremonies.  Ann also gave the command to start the engines and Stan Yee Jr. sang the National Anthem and received a huge round of applause, then ran to get in his car for the first race (which he won).   ...

(TOLEDO, Ohio - July 29, 2011) - Second-generation driver and Canadian Kyle DeLisle powered his way to victory in the ARCA ACME Dismantling 50 lap Sportsman feature Friday night at Toledo Speedway.  Eric Huston was the winner in the ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stock 35 lap main, while Robbie Loving scored the win in the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature race, all part of the Valvoline Instant Oil Change Summer Racing Series.

 

The Sun Drop Soda/Teamsters Local 20 Kid’s Night brought out a good crowd and a huge throng of youngsters, who were treated to free admission to the track, a free Valvoline T-Shirt and a free hot dog, chips and a drink, courtesy of Sherwood Foods, Seyfert’s Snacks and the Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 27, 2011) - A variety of racing events will make up the Saturday, August 6 show at Flat Rock Speedway.  The ARCA Truck Series returns to “The Rock” for a 100 lap contest, and will be joined by the track’s Enduro class for a 250 lap feature, a Figure 8 Train race and the ARCA Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder division.

Flat Rock Speedway's Wednesday night open practice session is a go.  The track has dried at 5:55 p.m. and the first car is on the track at 6 p.m. 

The session will go until 9 p.m. unless the rains set in again.

Flat Rock, Michigan--7-26-11:  The field of entries is inching toward 30 cars for the Saturday, July 30 running of the 4^th Annual Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by CGS Imaging at Flat Rock Speedway. As of Tuesday night, a total of 27 cars are on the pre-entry list.  Several more cars are expected after Wednesday night’s practice session at the ¼ mile paved oval, which will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The pit gate opens at 4.  Defending Gold Cup Series champion and 150 race winner Mike Root, 3-time Flat Rock champion Eric Lee, defending track champ Paul Pelletier and Dennis Strickland, winner of the 100 lap Gold Cup race at Flat Rock in June, lead the parade of entries.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 25, 2011) - For the die-hard, old time race fans, John Anderson was a name that was recognized throughout the Midwest, and, in later years, in NASCAR.  Anderson’s career took a huge jump when he drove for Stan Yee in the mid 1970’s, as the pair barn-stormed short tracks, racking up victory after victory.

Flat Rock, Michigan-July 23, 2011:  A pair of heavy rain showers finally put an end to the Glass Unlimited-sponsored night of racing Saturday at Flat Rock Speedway.  The first downpour came after qualifying was completed and pushed back the start of the program 30 minutes.  With the Late Model feature on the track and 4 laps complete, down came a heavy rain once again, washing out the remainder of the show.

 

All rain checks will be honored for any remaining event on the 2011 Flat Rock schedule at its face value.  Rain checks must be exchanged at the ticket office upon arrival to the track.  If there is a difference in price between the rain check and the admission amount for the race selected, the difference will be charged.

Toledo Speedway has cancelled tonight's Friday, July 22 Teamsters Local 20 race event due to rain and the threat of more of the same.

All Teamsters tickets will be honored next Friday, July 29.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan – July 22, 2011) - The winners of four of the top outlaw Late Model events in the area have all filed entries for the Saturday, July 30 running of the 4^th Annual Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by CGS Imaging at Flat Rock Speedway.  The event is leg number 3 of the 5 race Allegiant Gold Cup Series between Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways.

Saturday night was the eighth annual 100-lap feature for the A division Street Stocks. In the previous seven races saw a different competitor took the victory and 2011 another different driver added his name to the list. Chad Guinn won Sun Drop 100 in a decisive run. The win breaks the streak for four wins by Scott Selmi, who experience trouble on the way to the track and did not compete. “We finished second last year and weren’t going to back down. I was patient as possible out there. I love long distance races. My experience in the ARCA Lincoln Welder Truck Series and Late Model races are what I was used to running. I want to thank the Meade family, my family and crew,” said the driver of the Gonyea Auto Parts, Dixie Party Store, Guinn Chiropractic, Hedges Used Cars. The #86 finished second in three of the previous races, Guinn in 2010, Brian Norton in 2007 and Regan Ford in 2003.  A round applause goes out to the entire field. With only two cautions and two drop out, wonderful job! Rookie Landon Schuster finished a distant second and was one of four drivers to lead the race. I think Landon is the highest finishing rookie in the race since Regan Ford in 2003. Strangely, like winners, Landon is the eighth different runner up in the event. “Chad was behind me, next thing I saw was him go low on a lap car and he was gone after that. It’s my first 100-lap race, so there’s nothing wrong with finishing second,” said the driver of the Georgia Cable and Boring, A&D Auto Parts, Teamsters Local 20, D&S Boring, Communication Distributors, A-1 Auto Parts, Meg Fabrication, Rocky's Body Shop, Dynamic Designs Wraps, Allsouthautosports.com, Speedway Tire & Auto and Schorling Engines #118. Race winners, 2003-2010:  Brian Norton, Tod Sturgeon, Clyde McKee, Stevie Cronenwett, Ron Allen, Randy DeMaggio, Dan Ford Jr., and Tim Moore. The different runner-ups, 2003-2010: Guinn, DeMaggio, Ford Jr., Jeff Kurzyneic, Norton, Moore, Terry Humphrey and Regan Ford.  Tim Moore who won last year’s version of the 100-lap race, finished third. “Rough out there tonight. Think we broke something in the heat because it rattled the whole race. Tim is the current leader in the A division points. Fourth went to Jarod MacZink, “Big race and we got loose again. I’m honored to run with them... just a great racing,” said the driver of the unsponsored #7. Scott Selmi might’ve missed the race because of multiple flat tires on the way to the track, but his father, Jim, kept up with the family winning ways ... taking the victory in the 30-lap B division feature. “I had a blast tonight. We just threw an engine together for tonight,” said the 76-year old driver. Greg Studt won the Figure 8 feature. “Starting position is important. The top five guys are all good. I want to thank my dad, Bob, he’s the brains behind the car and it wouldn’t run as well as it does without him,” said the driver of the #33 And last but definitely not least... Congrats to Sam Hall on his first career feature win Friday at Toledo in the Figure 8 division. “It’s been a long time coming, I said if I didn’t win in 10 years I was going to quit. This is my ninth year. Just wish my dad was around to see it. It was weird, in the feature I could see the score board and every time I came by it was on lap 2 (his car number is 02) finally I quit looking and just raced. I want to thank my wife and family, Cathy and Dempsey Apperson, crew Jeff and Jeremy and Nancy at Long Branch Saloon. I also want to thank Steve Bunge for the set of tires. I was trying to get a couple just to race because the ones I had were bald. Shorts may now be worn in the pit area.  No short-shorts will be allowed and no swimsuits.  It is recommended that if you are working on a race car that long pants be worn.

 

The current policy of NO open-toed shoes or flip flops and no bare midriffs is still in effect.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 16, 2011) - Veteran Chad Guinn turned in a dominating performance and captured the Sun Drop 100 for the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway.  Guinn wheeled car owner Bill Meade’s #86 to a convincing win and a $1000 payday in record time for the 100 lap contest, which took just 28 minutes and 40 seconds to complete.  The track also staged its annual Christmas in July prize giveaway, with Santa Claus himself presenting presents to lucky race fans.

(TOLEDO, Ohio - July 15, 2011) - A nice crowd turned out for Toledo Speedway’s Lakeshore Utility Trailer/Velvet Ice Cream Christmas in July prize giveaway Friday night, with special guest Santa Claus and surprise guest, the Valvoline Grinch.  Dozens of prizes were handed out to fans of all ages, while the Valvoline Instant Oil Change Summer Racing Series race card provided great action and entertainment.

After 9 years of racing, Sam Hall scored his first win in the Parts Galore Figure 8 feature, Jim Froling topped the ACME Dismantling Sportsman event and the duo of Howard Kelley Jr./Tom O’Leary III captured the wild Figure 8 Train race.
