Melvin M. (Mel) Murphy, who won track championships and feature events in the ARCA Figure-8 division at both Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways, died September 18 at the age of 82 after a battle with Parkinson's Disease. Murphy's nephew Pat Herrmann was a winning ARCA Figure-8 driver, Pat's wife Penny Herrmann is an ARCA Official at Flat Rock and Toledo and their son Troy is an active ARCA Figure-8 driver. ...

(FLAT ROCK, Mich. - September 18, 2010) - A large crowd ventured to Flat Rock Speedway Saturday night for the final race of the season. The evening was filled with action, fun, and excitement as the rescheduled Griller's Select BBQ Sauce School Bus Figure 8 race highlighted the big event. Costa Cardasis of Griller's Select presented trophies and a case of BBQ sauce to each of the feature winners. David Price and Jeff Maran secured their track championships Saturday night.
