STEP ASIDE MEN, THE LADIES TAKE CONTROL IN HUSBAND-WIFE FIGURE 8 TRAIN RACE!

Toledo, Ohio—September 21, 2011:  After a season of cheering on their boyfriends, or husbands, it’s now time for the ladies to step into the driver’s seat at Toledo Speedway.  Saturday, September 24 marks the first-ever Husband-Wife Figure 8 Train race, with the ladies in charge.  Add to that the wives and mechanics races, the Michigan Legends and the popular Road Course race and you have a great day of entertainment at the Glass City oval. In addition to the racing, the track will host its annual Public Flea Market and Racer’s Flea Market in the track parking lot from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Set-up begins at 7 a.m.  Admission to the grounds is free and space rental is just $20 each for a 20’ x 20’ area.  For flea market information, please call 419-729-0269. The Figure 8 Train races feature 2 cars chained together; the front car with the engine (this is the ladies car) and the back car with the brakes (for the men).  Sooo, the ladies will steer their way around the tight, twisting Figure 8 track at the throttle, going through the intersection, while the husbands decide whether to stand on the brakes or not! The lineup includes Barb and Howard Kelley Jr., Dena and Tom O’Leary III, Chelsea Goro and Tom O’Leary IV, Tom O’Leary Jr. and daughter Tammy O’Leary, Tiffany Lyons and Lonnie York, Trina Apperson and Greg Stevens and Amanda Bland and Scott Apperson. The pit area opens at 2:30, the front gates and ticket office opens at 3:30, practice begins at 3:30 and racing starts at 5 p.m.  Admission is just $10 per adult, kids 6-12 are $3 and under 6 are free. For additional information, log onto www.toledospeedway.com  ...

LOCAL BUSINESS, DRIVERS CONTRIBUTE TO TOLEDO-AREA GROUPS

Toledo, Ohio—September 20, 2011:  A local business and several Toledo Speedway drivers have recently made contributions to Toledo-area non-profit/charity groups.   ACME Dismantling, which serves as the title sponsor of the track’s Sportsman class, donated $1000 to both the Toledo Police Patrolmen’s Association and the Toledo Fire Department in association with an event at the track.   A total of 13 Toledo Speedway Street Stock drivers donated a portion of their race winnings to the Downs Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo as part of an outing at the track August 19.  The non-profit group also sold “Footprints” to the fans for $1 during an on-track autograph session. Drivers John Rabideau, Craig Osenbaugh, Dennis Helsel, Eric Huston, Kyle Huston, TJ Miller, Mike Hammer, Bryan Moore, Rick Cousino, Billy Jackson, Matt Ringger, Dennis Whisman and Brad Turner all donated to the group. Toledo Speedway salutes everyone for their support of such groups.  ...

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - September 17, 2011) - A crisp, clear and cool night greeted a large crowd for the re-scheduled Griller’s Select BBQ Sauce School Bus Figure 8 races Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway.  The event was delayed by a week due to rain.  The fans were treated to an action-packed night of entertainment.  Billy Earley topped the School Bus race, Dan Ford Jr. won the Street Stock main event, Jeff Metdpenningen scored the 250 lap Enduro win and Brad Turner sealed the 2011 Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder title with his win.  Each winner received a case of bbq sauce from Griller’s Select.

ARCA Member Greg Luttman Passes

Greg Luttman, age 50 of Dearborn, whose brothers Jerry Lee and Richie Lee are active in the ARCA Figure-8 division at Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways, died Sunday Sept. 11 after a lengthy illness. Greg is also survived by daughter Alicia Luttman, mother Cynthia Lee, brothers Larry Luttman and Terry Luttman and sister Cheryl Juliano. Visitation is Wednesday Sept. 14 from 2-4 p.m. with funeral service at 4 p.m. at the Allen Park Chapel of Voran Funeral Home, 5900 Allen Rd, Allen Park MI (313) 928-2300.
