Tyler Roahrig to Race at Toledo Speedway on June 18 as Part of 500 Sprint Car Tour Commitment

(January 6, 2023): Two-time Glass City 200 Champion Tyler Roahrig has announced his commitment to a full-time entry in the 500 Sprint Car Tour for 2023, and will race at Toledo Speedway on June 18.

Tyler Roahrig is no stranger to Toledo, winning the Glass City 200 in 2016 and 2018 under two very different circumstances. In 2016, a rain-delayed night race saw a number of cautions dominate the first half of the 200-lap feature. Roahrig rode in front of the chaos and his father, JR Roahrig, finished very close behind in second place in a memorable 1-2 for the Roahrig family. In 2018, Tyler would be the chaos. He would bring out the caution on lap 12 of the 100-lap feature with a spin off of turn 4, sending him to the rear of the field. This setback would prove to be just a hurdle, however, as he would recover to take the lead with just 30 to go, winning his second Glass City 200.

Roahrig remains one of the more exciting drivers today in the Midwest, and the Roahrig name has become extremely familiar to Toledo over the decade. Tyler’s father, JR, is another two-time Glass City 200 champion, winning in 2014 and 2017.

Roahrig, a Plymouth, Indiana native, made headlines in 2022 when he captured the most number of wins in the inaugural season of the 500 Sprint Car Tour. Despite missing one race in Anderson due to a scheduling conflict, he would win four out of the eight races he competed in. The 50% win rate would help net him an extremely strong sixth in the 500 Sprint Car Tour’s standings. This year, however, looks to be very exciting, as Tyler plans on racing in all nine races for the 500 Sprint Car Tour schedule, as well as the full USAC Silver Crown Schedule.

“I am excited to race at some new tracks in 2023,” said Tyler Roahrig. “I have competed many times in my outlaw (late model) at Toledo so I am excited to race with my sprint car there. We should be able to take past experiences and use them right away.”

The 500 Sprint Car Tour will come to Toledo Speedway on a special Father’s Day Sunday event on June 18th. Follow along at toledospeedway.com for further information in regards to the event.
