Diversity Displayed at Toledo Speedway this Weekend

TOLEDO, OH: (7-1-09): Toledo Speedway's presence as an entertainment complex in the Glass City is quite evident by the schedule of events slated for the upcoming 4th of July holiday weekend at the Benore Road facility. A classic car show, a Blues/Jazz concert, auto racing and the opening of the Toledo Speedway BMX Bicycle track are all part of the festivities planned for the holiday. It all starts Thursday evening with the weekly Placer's Car Club Classic Car Show Cruisin', sponsored by Miller Lite.  The shows, which began in May, have drawn between 100-200 cars each week, and takes place inside the track.  Admission is free of charge and food and beverages are available.  The show runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Thursday.
 
Immediately following the car show, the Speedway Bar and Grille, located adjacent to the speedway, will host  a concert presented by the Black Swamp Blues Society in the banquet room.  The night features Johnny A, with Frostbite opening up the night of music.  Tickets for this event are $12 in advance at Durdel's Music, Culture Clash or by calling 419-866-8977.  Tickets will be $15 at the door.
 
Friday, July 3 the action turns to the speedway itself with the appearance of the USAC National Sprint Car and Midget touring series.  Drivers from 8 or more states are expected for the event, which is sponsored by Hemelgarn Racing and Super Fitness.  The open-wheel groups have been a part of the Toledo Speedway schedule for 4 decades.  Practice begins at 4, time trials are at 6 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.  A vintage race car display is planned, along with a Racer's Reunion and a Northwest Ohio Quarter Midget display are all part of the festivities for Friday night.
 
The much-anticipated opening of the Toledo Speedway BMX Bicycle track is scheduled for this Saturday, July 4.  The track was moved and rebuilt on the grounds of the track this spring, and Saturday is opening day at the beautiful facility.  Operated by Brad Moore, the 2009 schedule will feature practices on Monday and racing on Wednesdays and Saturdays. 
 
The July 4 timetable has registration at 5:30 and racing at 6:30.  The track is located on the west end of the grounds of Toledo Speedway.  Monday practice days are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Wednesday times are 5:30 registration, with racing at 6:30 p.m.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 10, 11 and 12 are the State Championship/Redline Cup races.  For BMX information, call 419-450-9930 or go to http://www.toledobmx.com/.
