SWANSON CONTINUES TOLEDO STREAK IN USAC SILVER CROWN; ALLEN, KYLE METDEPENNIGEN SCORE WINS

Toledo, Ohio-August 6, 2022:  Kody Swanson continued his domination of Toledo Speedway in convincing fashion, notching the victory in the Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness Rollie Beale Classic fueled by Marco’s Pizza Saturday night in the 100-lap contest for the USAC Silver Crown Series.  Ron Hemelgarn presented Kody the trophy in the Monroe Asphalt Winner’s Circle.

Ron Allen grabbed the win in the ARCA Salenbien Excavating Late Model Sportsman feature, while Kyle Metdepenningen claimed the victory in the 100-lap feature on the short track for The Vault Antiques and Treasures ARCA Factory Stocks.

Swanson had a comfortable margin at the checkered flag over Bobby Santos Jr.  Santos had a great battle with Justin Grant for the second half of the event, as Santos snuck by on lap 92 to take second spot.  Grant was third, Logan Seavey fourth and Russ Gamester fifth.  The only yellow flag of the race appeared on lap 56 when Taylor Ferns, battling with Grant for second, spun and tagged the foam blocks in turn 3, collecting CJ Leary and Travis Welpott also in the incident.  All drivers were ok.

Swanson also set fast time for the 22-car field at 15:244 and collected his 6th Toledo win, ironically surpassing the late Beale as Toledo’s all-time USAC win leader.

The family of Beale was introduced in pre-race festivities.  A collection of Vintage Race cars were on display during the night, and several took parade laps prior to the start of the race card.

Allen, the defending division champion for the Salenbien Excavating Late Model Sportsman class, put it all together to grab his first win of the year at Toledo.  Allen had not competed at the track this year due to mechanical issues beginning with the first race of the season in May.  The group put on a very competitive 25 lap all-green flag feature race.  Andy Harding took the lead at the start, with Greg Stilwell taking over the number 1 spot on lap 2.  Greg stretched his lead as the battle for second waged on lap after lap.  Allen, the fast qualifier at 17:124, started 5th and took over second spot on lap 11, then set sail to catch Stilwell.  With 7 to go, Ron began to pressure Greg after cutting the gap, and, on lap 21, dove to the inside in turn one, nosing out front and taking the top spot on his way to the win.  Stilwell took second, Howard Kelley Jr. was third, Jim Froling fourth and Kyle Worley fifth, followed by Kenny Sharp, Todd Perkins, Jim Brazeau, Dan Grigsby, Dave Frantz, Joe Rozek and Harding.

The Vault Antiques and Treasures ARCA Factory Stocks competed in a 100-lap contest, which was postponed back in July.  The race saw Steven Smith as the early leader, as he paced the field for the first 23 laps.  The 15-car field settled into the event, with a handful of yellow flags throughout the event.  Smith tangled with a lapped car on lap 23, with both cars going to the tail.  That put Craig Osenbaugh in the number 1 spot as the Toledo veteran stayed in command.  By lap 50, the lead trio of Craig, Rayce Metdepenningen and Rayce’s brother, Kyle, had built up a gap back to 4th spot.  Rayce went to the outside lane to challenge Osenbaugh for the lead, and that duo put on a show as they ran door to door from lap 70 to 85.  On lap 86, they made contact and both spun, bringing out the yellow flag.  Both cars went to the rear of the pack, and now Kyle M. was the man at the front.

Kyle’s patience throughout the race was rewarded as he led the event through the final 14 laps to take the win.  Matt Bunting, who also ran in the top 5 for most of the race and was patient, came home second, Osenbaugh raced back up to third at the finish, James Rae was very consistent and took fourth, while current point leader Randy Padgett Jr. came home fifth.  Smith battled back up to grab sixth, followed by Brad Turner, Rayce Metdepennigen, Victor York, Nick Yee, Brian Ringger, Gabrielle Grigsby, Logan Bunting, Mike Miller and Hunter Padgett.  Rayce set fast time at 12:614.
