SCHOOL BUS FIGURE 8 CONTEST OPENS TOLEDO SEASON

May 15, 2022:  Toledo Speedway kicked open the doors for 2022 Sunday afternoon, with a sun-baked crowd on hand for the Central Avenue Truck Parts School Bus Figure 8 race.  AJ Padgett took the win, with Dave Lambert grabbing the Boat Figure 8 contest.  Greg Stilwell notched the victory in the ARCA Salenbien Excavating Late Model Sportsman feature, while Randy Padgett Jr. took top honors in The Vault ARCA Factory Stock main event.

Local driver Greg Stilwell took the lead from Kyle Worley on lap 2 and held back Jim Froling to win the 25 lap ARCA Salenbien Excavating Late Model Sportsman feature race.  Froling closed to within a couple of car lengths but could not catch Stilwell at the checkered flag.  Third was Worley, fourth was Todd Perkins and fifth spot was Dan Grigsby.  Ron Allen scratched for the day with mechanical issues.  Froling posted fast time at 17:230, with Stilwell taking the heat win.

An action-packed 20 lap feature for The Vault ARCA Factory Stocks went down to the closing laps.  Brian Ringger led the first 2 laps, with Craig Osenbaugh nosing into the lead on lap 3.  Craig zipped in and out of lapped traffic as the laps wound down.  Fast qualifier Randy Padgett Jr.(12:781) was patient, went to the 2nd groove with about 5 laps to go and grabbed the lead with 2 laps to go on his way to the win.  Troy Brehmer got to second at the stripe, Osenbaugh was third, Steve Smith fourth and Ringger fifth, followed by James Rae, Gabrielle Grigsby, Logan Bunting, Victor York, Paul Martell, Destinee Arnold and Jimmy Wahl.  Heat wins went to Smith and Grigsby, who celebrated her birthday with the checkered flag.

Lambert topped Kevin Stepinski, Martell and AJ Padgett to win the Boat Figure 8 race.

The finale’, the School Bus Figure 8 contest, saw Dennis Whisman Jr. roll over his bus early in the event, much to the delight of the crowd.  A couple of hard intersection hits knocked the front ends off the buses as AJ Padgett did damage on his way to the win over Ken Schrader, Sam Mills, Jack Franzil, Whisman Jr., Lambert and Terry Smith.

Bus sponsors were Central Avenue Truck Parts, Federated Car Care, PB Fabrication, Klumm Brothers Excavating, R & M Recycling and Clean Harbors/Safety Kleen.
