A LOOK BACK---TOLEDO SPEEDWAY

In 1976 and again in 1977, ARCA founder and Flat Rock/Toledo promoter John Marcum staged the "Race Against Cancer" at Toledo Speedway.

The events took place while NASCAR's top drivers were in the area for the events at Michigan International Speedway.  Marcum used his ties to bring in the "boys" to race against the top Late Model drivers in the Midwest.

Through the 2 years, Richard Petty was the honorary starter for one of the races.  Benny Parsons, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, Dave Marcis and Darrell Waltrip competed in at least one of these events.

Marcis and the legendary Joy Fair won the events.  Marcum donated $10,000 each of those years to the American Cancer Society.
