BIKERS OF NW OHIO TOY RUN BENEFITS CHILDREN SERVED AT HARBOR

The 30th Annual Bikers of Northwest Ohio Toy Run was held Sunday Nov. 3 at Toledo Speedway, and cool but dry conditions and temperatures in the low 50s brought over 500 motorcycles, some 700 riders and total attendance of nearly 1000 to the yearly charity event. The activities generated donations to benefit the youth served at Harbor of Toledo.

Organized annually by lifelong Toledo resident and veteran biker “Big Mike” Wenzel, the outing brings together several local and regional biker clubs who donate either a child’s Christmas gift or a $10 cash donation to participate. The event, annually held on the first Sunday in November, features an appearance by Santa, who distributes presents to a Harbor family at the agency’s location in downtown Toledo.

Former Toledo Mayor Mike Bell was among the riders, and Wenzel led the procession, followed by Santa in a sidecar. The organized run was conducted with traffic control assistance from the Avengers. The bikers departed from Toledo Speedway and routed along Benore Road, Alexis Road, Enterprise Road, Matzinger Road, Stickney Avenue, Sherman Street, Cherry Street, Canton Street, Woodruff Avenue and 14th Street to the Harbor destination in downtown Toledo.

Harbor, founded over 100 years ago, is the leading mental health provider in Northwest Ohio with several locations in the Toledo area. The agency offers a wide range of services with several programs dedicated to children’s services such as family medicine, assistance and consulting for childcare centers and Developmental Pediatrics.

Sponsors of the event included International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 20, Big Mike and the Avengers Motorcycle Club of Lucas County and Toledo Speedway. Rodney Parker & Liberty-Beach provided live music for the bikers at the Toledo Speedway Bar & Grill.

The 31st annual Bikers of Northwest Ohio Toy Run is scheduled for Sunday Nov. 1, 2020.
