NORM LEWALLEN

Norman J. “Norm” Lewallen, 57, of Toledo, passed away Monday January 15 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo Inpatient Unit. A lifelong Toledo Speedway supporter and participant, Lewallen attended races watching his late father Norm Lewallen Sr. and went on to become a 2nd generation driver. The younger Lewallen started his racing career in 1986 and continued for 30 years, including nearly 20 years as a driver in the ARCA Sportsman division at Toledo Speedway. He competed in the Street Stock and Late Model Sportsman divisions at Toledo in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and in the ARCA Sportsman division from 1999 to present, with a dedicated band of family and crew members supporting his #4. In addition to being a feature winner on the Toledo Speedway ½ mile track in Sportsman competition, Norm was the 1993 and 1994 ¼ mile factory stock track champion with multiple feature victories. In addition to his father, Norm’s brother Bedford Lewallen also raced at Toledo Speedway.

Norm was Vice President of Teamsters Local 20 since 2014, having begun his career with Local 20 in 2002 as an Organizer. He became a Business Representative in 2007, and was appointed as Trustee on the Executive Board in 2010. He was the current State Co-Chairman of Construction in Ohio and Local 20 Director of Solid Waste.

Norm is survived by daughters Amanda (Tony) LaPoint, Melissa (Thomas Tkaczyk) Lewallen and Annie Lewallen; special favorite daughter, K-9 Lucy; son Brandon Arnal; grandchildren Frankie, Raegan, Kaitlyn, Paxton, Landry, Makayla, Memphis, and Mylee; sisters Victoria (Lee) Lopez and Paula (Dennis) McGee; brothers Tim (Lori) and Bedford Lewallen; and Life Partner Cheree Herring. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman Sr. and Jacqueline (Kelly) Lewallen; son Andrew Lewallen; and sister in law Mary Lewallen.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Saturday and Sunday, January 20 and 21st from 3-9pm, where Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 22nd at 11am.

Those wishing to offer memorials in Norm’s memory are asked to consider the St. Jude’s Hospital.
