NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION THRILLS TOLEDO CROWD

Toledo, Ohio—June 2, 2017: Friday night’s Monroe Superstore “Night of Destruction” at Toledo Speedway entertained race fans of all ages with some serious racing and the fun events, capped off by the School Bus Figure 8 race. With perfect weather, a large crowd stayed until the final event as AJ Padgett took top honors in the School Bus Figure 8 race, ending the event by rolling his bus over as the crowd cheered.

A full slate of activity included the first race of the season for the ARCA Aramark Late Model Sportsman cars on the ½ mile. The 35 lap main event saw Greg Stilwell take the lead on the green. Howard Kelley Jr. dipped to the low groove on lap 4 and grabbed the top spot, with several contenders following suit. Kelley had pressure from Ron Allen, Mike Young and Tommy O’Leary IV as the laps wound down. With 4 to go, O’Leary got into some oil in turn 3 and slammed the wall. He was ok, but his car sustained heavy damage. Kelley Jr. stayed in control on the restart after the red flag and grabbed the win over Allen, Stilwell, Young, Jim Froling (in James Potter’s #6), Dan Grigsby, Nick Shanks, Craig Osenbaugh, O’Leary IV, Gerald Wheaton, Kent McCloskey and Derek Halka. Young set fast time at 17:225, with heat wins to Stilwell and Froling.

A 20 lap ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature saw Dan Apperson hold off Jeremy Vanderhoof for the victory. Dennis Whisman Sr. had the early lead, but collided with Mark Lavoie, ending his night and the bid for the win. Apperson led the remainder of the contest all the way to the finish. Dennis Whisman Jr, Jeremy Miller, Travis Earley, Dave Lambert, James Vanderhoof, Scott Apperson, Jeremy Fragassi, Joe Vanderhoof, Whisman Sr. and Lavoie completed the finishing order.

The ARCA Factory Stocks competed in a 15 lap contest on the Figure 8 track, with Paul Martell scoring his first-ever feature victory over James Good, Craig Osenbaugh, Jacob Thomas, Tommy O’Leary IV, Kenny Heebsh Jr., Cory McCaughey, Jesse Carillo, Mike Miller, Matt Ringger and Ryan Mallory.

Dave Lambert took the Race Car Bowling event and also won the Boat Figure 8 race over Martell and Thomas. A hard night of attrition left only a few cars eligible for these events as the night came to a conclusion. Whisman Jr. sped to the win in the Flag Pole race over Joe Vanderhoof, Heebsh, Jeremy Vanderhoof, Mike Miller, Lambert, Mallory and James Vanderhoof.

The duo of O’Leary IV/Adam Plonski charged to the win in the 10 lap Figure 8 Train race. Billy Earley/Whisman Sr., Travis Earley/Whisman Jr., Jeremy Fragassi/David Mitchell, Kevin Stepinski/Erich Heuschele and Randy Roberts Jr./Heebsh trailed the winners.

A pair of rollovers highlighted the School Bus Figure 8 event. Terry Smith got help from Jack Franzil and dropped his bus over—and then it was righted with Terry still in the seat and he continued on! Jeremy Vanderhoof took the nose off his bus by tagging another competitor at the intersection as the crowd roared its approval. Through it all, AJ Padgett was declared the winner as he finished the night by rolling his bus over with an assist from Dan Apperson. Smith, Whisman Sr., Franzil, Apperson, Kevin Stepinski and Vanderhoof were the remainder of the field of drivers.

Bus sponsors were the Monroe Superstore, PB Fabrication, Hammer’s Grill, R & M Recycling, Central Avenue Truck Parts and the Willy’s Overland Jeepster Club.

There is no racing scheduled for Toledo next week, however, the track will play host to the wildly-popular Insane Inflatable 5k run Saturday, June 10 on the grounds of Toledo Speedway! The event will be staged by Town Square Media of Charlotte, NC. A “wave” of runners takes off every 15 minutes, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Racing action returns to Toledo on Friday evening, June 16 for the All American Coach/Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness “Fastest Short Track Show in the World”, featuring the open-wheel race machines of the MSA Super Modifieds and the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Winged Sprint Cars.

Fans can save $5 on advance purchases for the June 16 show by calling the track at 419-727-1100 or stopping in at the office.
