    GLASS CITY 200 FORMAT TO CHANGE FOR 2017 SEASON

    Toledo, OH—November 22, 2016: The 29th running of Toledo Speedway’s signature event, the Glass City 200, will undergo a format change for the 2017 edition of the race. The new plan will see a pair of 100 lap features on the agenda—100 laps for the outlaw-bodied ARCA Late Models and a 100 lap event for the ARCA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS stock-bodied Late Models. Each race will pay $5000 to win and $800 to start.  The date is Saturday, September 16.

    The recent format called for a 200 lap feature for the outlaw Late Models, with a break at the lap 101 mark. The race itself has had several versions throughout its storied history; a pair of 100 lap events, 150 laps, plus a 50 lap Sportsman race and 200 laps straight with pit stops.

    “We have contemplated this switch for several years,” noted Ron Drager, ARCA President and the owner/promoter of Toledo, as well as Flat Rock Speedway. “200 laps on any race car is tough on equipment, especially with the speeds at Toledo. “The new format should give race fans the opportunity to see more drivers, more cars and better racing for the Glass City 200.”

    The schedule for the race will remain the same as it has for the past several events. An open practice will be held Friday, September 15, with additional practice, qualifying, last-chance races, B Main features (based on number of cars) and the 100 lap events that will make up the Glass City 200 for Saturday, September 16. A rain date of Sunday, September 17 has been established.

    Grandstand admission ticket prices ($20 advance, $25 walk-up) will remain the same for the Glass City 200, as will the pit pass fees. Title sponsorship is being sought as of press time. Additional information will be announced regarding the event during the 2017 season.

    “This was a long-considered, tough decision,” said Drager. “But the end result for both fans and race teams, we believe, will be a higher quality Glass City 200. “We are looking forward to the entire 2017 season and capping it off with our traditional season finale, the 29th Glass City 200.”

    I understand the format change for the Outlaw cars.  Unfortunately, it was long overdue.  Has there been any thought into bringing back the ASA classic Glass City 300 for the CRA Series?  Even a 200 lap event for the template bodied cars would be a nice sight.  A lot of people in the Midwest have seen this series run longer feature like the RedBud 300 and Winchester 400.  Why not a 300 lap event at Toledo?

      Thanks Rob. As you can see with the 2017 format change, we will work to keep the race events at both tracks relevant so nothing is off the table long term. We still see the ARCA (Outlaw) Late Model division having a vital presence at Toledo Speedway as the '17 schedule of 100-lappers shows, including the 7-Up 200 and Glass City 200 dual division formats. And as we announced at the banquet, we're adding a 75-lap event at Flat Rock to go along with weekly 50-lap features and the Joy Fair 100 and the Stan Yee 150 for the ARCA Late Models. Have a good Thanksgiving, glad to see that Street Stock on the track!
