USAC SILVER CROWN SERIES RETURNS TO TOLEDO MAY 1 FOR ROLLIE BEALE CLASSIC; 1ST LEG OF HEMELGARN/SUPER FITNESS TOLEDO TRIPLE CROWN

USAC SILVER CROWN SERIES RETURNS TO TOLEDO MAY 1 FOR ROLLIE BEALE CLASSIC; 1ST LEG OF HEMELGARN/SUPER FITNESS TOLEDO TRIPLE CROWN

Toledo, Ohio—April 21, 2015:  A variety of story lines will accompany the return of the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series to Toledo Speedway Friday, evening, May 1.  The event is the Rollie Beale Classic, paying homage to the late Beale, the 1973 USAC Sprint Car champion and a former USAC Series director.

Perhaps the top story of the event is the $25,000 bonus payday put up by Toledo-area businessman and 1996 Indy 500 winning car owner Ron Hemelgarn.  The Hemelgarn/Super Fitness $25,000 Triple Crown will be awarded to the driver that can win 3 of the Toledo open-wheel races at the fast ½ mile paved oval this season.  The USAC Silver Crown race, a 100 lap contest, will serve as leg number 1 of the 3-races.  Leg 2 is set for Friday, June 12 for the USAC Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Winged Sprint Car race and the third and final leg is slated for Friday, June 26 when the USAC “King of the Wing” Classic invades the Glass City.

The big bonus has sent a host of drivers searching for rides for the Silver Crown event and the pair of  Winged Sprint shows at Toledo.  Local drivers Jimmy McCune, Dave Baumgartner and 15 year-old rising start Austin Nemire are all entered for the May 1 event. Testing has begun at the track, including Kody Swanson, pictured here.  Several other drivers and teams are slated to tackle the fast ½ mile in the coming days.

A resurgence of interest in the Silver Crown Series, led by Director Andy Hillenburg, has a 23 car entry list assembled for the Toledo event, the touring group’s first race of 2015.  The May 1 event also marks the return of the Series to Toledo for the first time in 3 years.  2011 winner Swanson of Kingsburg, CA is one of the entries for the event.  The 2010 and 2012 Toledo winner, Jerry Coons Jr. of Tuscon, AZ is also entered.  All 3 of the Toledo races were very competitive events.

The Hemelgarn/Super Fitness Rollie Beale Classic will be an all open-wheel show at Toledo.  USAC’s HPD Midget Series and the Northwest Ohio Quarter-Midgets will battle on Toledo’s ¼ mile paved oval prior to the 100 lap feature event for the Silver Crown machines.

Race fans can save $5 on an advance ticket if purchased by 5 p.m. Thursday, April 30.  The ticket order form may be downloaded from the track’s web page after logging in, and may be sent via email to the track.  Tickets are also available at the Toledo Speedway ticket office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Phone orders are also being accepted by calling 419-727-1100.  Most major credit cards are accepted.

The grandstands will open at 5 p.m. May 1 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.  Toledo Speedway is located on Benore Road at the I-75/Alexis Road exit on the Michigan-Ohio border.  Log onto www.toledospeedway.com, like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/toledoflatrock or follow us on Twitter @toledospeedway.

The Midgets that are running at the USAC HPD Midgets. They are not the USAC Midgets we had in the past. They will run on the short track Friday night.
