ARCA returning to Toledo with traditional May date lined up on 2014 series schedule

(TOLEDO, Ohio – Nov. 15, 2013) – ARCA’s home track, Toledo Speedway, will be back on the ARCA Racing Series schedule in 2014 with its traditional date in the middle of May. Toledo Speedway and ARCA officials announced today that the ARCA Racing Series will race on the half-mile speedway May 18, 2014. A total of 13 races for 2014 have now been announced by series officials.

“Toledo Speedway is our home track and has been an important part of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule for years,” ARCA President Ron Drager said.

The legendary Iggy Katona won the first ARCA race at Toledo Speedway, on April 21, 1963. That was the first of 72 ARCA races at the track.

Numerous ARCA greats have won at the half-mile oval. Jack Bowsher won twice in 1965 and Benny Parsons won three times in 1968 and 1969. Ramo Scott and Joy Fair earned Toledo wins in the 1970s. Others, like Dave Dayton, Bobby Bowsher, Bob Keselowski, Bill Venturini, Justin Allgaier, Parker Kligerman, Chris Buescher and Ty Dillon have visited victory lane at Toledo. Frank Kimmel, who has 10 series championships to his credit, has the record with nine wins at Toledo.

Last year, a couple of historic events took place during the ARCA Racing Series weekend at Toledo Speedway. To kick things off, Kyle Benjamin won the pole for the race. In doing so, he became the youngest pole-winner in series history. The next day, Kenny Schrader won the event, becoming - at the time - the oldest winner in series history.

The tentative 2014 schedule calls for practice and qualifying on Saturday, May 17. That night, fans can pile into the Toledo Speedway Bar & Grille to watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star Race. The ARCA cars then take to the track for a green flag start time of 2 p.m. Sunday.
