(TOLEDO, Ohio – Nov. 15, 2013) – The ARCA Midwest Tour and ARCA/CRA Super Series will kick off the 2014 racing season at Toledo Speedway with another combined Border Wars contest. It’s that type of short track racing, NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch says, that makes late model racing so great.

Toledo Speedway officials announced Thursday that the tour touring series will combine forces for the 150-lap contest on the fast half-mile paved oval on Saturday, April 12. The full schedule will be announced later, but an April 11 practice session is already being planned, as is an April 13 rain date.

"After the huge success of the First Border Wars event last April, I can't wait for the second one!" said Glenn Luckett, Managing Partner with CRA. "It was a great race with a very talented group of racers from both series.  It was a great example of what can be accomplished when people work together."

Kyle Busch wrote a guest column this month for Speed Sport Magazine (http://www.nationalspeedsportnews.com) in which he praised this type of group effort in late model racing.

Busch wrote:

“One thing I believe that all of the different late model sanctioning bodies could do to create some excitement is to work together to try and come up with a more unified rulebook. There are teams that struggle to come up with the money to get to the track in the first place and then they are forced to spend additional money to ensure their cars are legal within a certain sanctioning body’s rules.

“And because each sanctioning body has its own set of rules, if you want to race the same car in multiple series, it takes more money to buy the different parts and pieces it takes to be legal for each of the series – whether it’s engines, exhausts, fuel cells, brakes, etc.

“Let’s work to make it easier and more cost effective for a team that runs in the Pro All Star Series to run races in the ARCA/CRA Series or the Southern Super Series. Take a look at what the ARCA/CRA and ARCA Midwest Tour did this season. With both running under the ARCA banner, they created a few border war races at Madison (Wis.) International Speedway and Toledo Speedway. By doing this, it helps create regional rivalries, and who doesn’t love rivalries?”

Busch is a veteran late model driver who often takes time off his NASCAR schedule to race at shor tracks around the country. He’s won several of them, including the Winchester 400.

“ … As long as there are tracks still running late models, you’ll find me supporting them year in and year out,” Busch wrote in the Speed Sport Magazine guest column.

Steve Einhaus, from the ARCA Midwest Tour, couldn’t agree more with Busch’s assessment.

“This event is very important to the success of super late model racing across the country,” Einhaus said. “Bringing the two tops series in the U.S. together with a large talent pool is proof that the ‘Border Wars 150’ will become one of the biggest events of the season each year. We are proud to be established was such a fine organization in ARCA and we look forward to many years ahead.”
