VanDoorn - fastest in Friday's practice - focused on Glass City 200 at Toledo Speedway

(TOLEDO, Ohio – Sept. 28, 2013) – Johnny VanDoorn has a chance at $100,000 next month if he can win the Winchester 400 at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway. Last year, by virtue of his ARCA/CRA Super Series season championship, he won a ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards test at Daytona International Speedway. But, this weekend, VanDoorn is only thinking about one thing: The Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200.

“For two weeks, I’ve been obsessing about this race, making sure the car is right and we have all the details down pat,” Van Doorn said Friday at Toledo Speedway, the home of the Glass City 200. “We’ve been planning for everything.”

VanDoorn was the quickest car on the track for Friday’s two-hour practice session. He clicked off a lap of 14.973 seconds. All practice times can be viewed by logging onto www.toledospeedway.com .

The Coopersville, Michigan resident has had an amazing season. He’s not running the full ARCA/CRA Super Series, but has visited victory lane when he has. He has an opportunity to claim the JEGS/CRA Super Late Model $100,000 Triple Crown Bonus if he can win the Winchester 400. VanDoorn won the first two legs in the Triple Crown which were the June 15th Berlin 251 and the Redbud 300 at Anderson Speedway on July 20th, which guarantees him a minimum $10,000 bonus, but now the all-time series win leader at Winchester Speedway can do what no other asphalt late model racer has ever had a chance to do, walk away with a $100,000 cash bonus! VanDoorn picked up his fifth series win at Winchester in the 400 tune up on Labor Day Weekend.

This weekend, though, he’s focused on Toledo.

“This is a big race,” he said. “You have to focus on the race you are running and not think about other races or look ahead.”

VanDoorn won the 7Up 150 at Toledo Speedway in April, a combination ARCA Midwest Tour and ARCA/CRA Super Series race.  He has four feature wins at high-banked, half-mile.

“Anytime you can come to Toledo Speedway it’s a big day,” VanDoorn said. “I’ve raced at short tracks from Toledo to Florida, and this is my favorite short track race of them all.”

The Silver Anniversary of the Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 is this weekend at the high-banked, half-mile Toledo Speedway. The gates open noon on Saturday for a practice session, which is also free to fans. At 2:30 p.m., the grandstands will be cleared and tickets are $25 general admission at that point. Qualifying for the Glass City 200 is at 3 p.m. with racing beginning at 5 p.m.
