Fair Jr. among four former Glass City 200 winners entered in the Silver Anniversary event

(TOLEDO, Ohio – Sept. 27, 2013) – Harold Fair Jr. knows what it takes to win the Glass City 200. The southeast Michigan resident won the event in 2008 and 2010.

“I’ve dropped out of the race more than I’ve won it, though,” Fair said. “This is a tough race to just get to the end of.”

The Silver Anniversary of the Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 is this weekend at the high-banked, half-mile Toledo Speedway. A practice session is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight, with free admission for fans. The gates open noon on Saturday for a practice session, which is also free to fans. At 2:30 p.m., the grandstands will be cleared and tickets are $25 general admission. Qualifying for the Glass City 200 is at 3 p.m. with racing beginning at 5 p.m.

Fair Jr. is the winningest-active late model winner at Toledo Speedway with 18 career feature wins. He raced in the Gold Cup series this year, some Main Event races, and a few others around the Midwest.

“I’ve had a terrible year, but this is a new weekend,” he said. “Every weekend is a new weekend. I’m looking forward to Toledo Speedway.”

Fair said the 200 lap race can be grueling, even though there is a break after lap 101.

“The first 100 laps, you have to watch for the yellow flags and keep your fenders clean,” he said. “The second 100 laps, sometimes, is all about attrition. You have to have some motor left for the second half of the race.”

The field for the Glass City 200, long a prestigious event for the track, is shaping up – as usual – to include some of the best outlaw, late model drivers in the Midwest. Fair is one of several former Glass City 200 winners on the 2013 entry list. That includes Terry Senneker (2012), Augie Grill (2010) and Steve Sauve (2002-2004).Not only has Fair won twice, he also finished second in 2005.

“It’s always a great field,” Fair said.
