Former Winner Doering, Michigan Hot Shoe Joe Bush Enter Glass City Late Model Event

TOLEDO, OH (9-11-2008)--  2006 race winner John Doering has filed his entry for the 20th Anniversary of the Miller Lite Glass City 200, set for Saturday, September 20 at Toledo Speedway.  Hastings, MI driver Joe Bush, also expected to be a contender for the win, has also entered this year’s edition of the Late Model invitational, which has been set for 150 laps for 2008.  A cash purse of over $55,000 has been posted, with 200 laps of feature racing planned for the evening.

Doering will be at the wheel of the Dean Hudson-prepared #5, owned by Indiana veteran Larry Zent.  The trio were teamed together for Doering’s win in the 2005 Glass City event.  Bush, who has numerous feature wins around the tri-state area, is looking for his first Glass City victory and his initial Toledo win on the fast ½ mile paved oval.

 

Other entries include Toledo’s Late Model Gold Cup champion Harold Fair Jr. and his father, Harold Sr., recent Toledo Late Model and former champ Dave Kuhlman, Justin Schroeder, Johnny Belott, 2003 Toledo Late Model champ Brian Keselowski, Ohio driver Jake Francis, Toledoan Jeff Bailey, 2006 Flat Rock champ Paul Pelletier and former Flat Rock and Toledo champ Dennis Strickland.  A field of 30-35 cars are expected.

 

The 2008 edition will be scaled back to 150 laps, due to economic conditions.  Ticket prices and pit passes have been rolled back $5 each also.  The race, which will see a 20-minute break at lap 76, will pay the winner $5500 plus contingency awards, while $1000 has been posted to start.  30 cars will take the green flag for the race.  A 35 lap ARCA Sportsman race and a 15 lap Factory Stock Figure 8 race are also scheduled, giving race fans 200 laps of racing.

Track officials have reinstated the “Champions Program”, which will be sponsored by LV Alliance.  The program will award $200 cash and a free entry to the 2008 track champions of the following tracks;  Flat Rock-Eric Lee; Toledo-Harold Fair Jr.; Angola, IN Speedway-Brent Jack; Dixie Motor Speedway Dixie Cup champion-John Grega; Kalamazoo, MI Speedway-Andy Bozell; Spartan, MI Speedway-Jim Gallagher; and the current point leader of the Main Event Late Model Series-Gary Whipkey.  The champions have been sent invitations to compete. In the event the track champion decides not to compete in the 200, the offer will be extended to the runner-up in the points of each track.  The offer will continue down to the next man in line until it has been utilized by a driver from one of the 7 tracks and/or series that are part of the LV Alliance Champions Program.

 

SPECIAL 20TH ANNIVERSARY PROGRAM TO BE AVAILABLE

 

In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Glass City race, track historians Jim Hehl, Brian Norton and several members of the track staff are compiling a special edition souvenir program.  The booklet will contain photos and short recaps of each of the 19 previous Glass City events held at Toledo, which began in 1968 and ran through 1977; the race was revived in 1999 when current ARCA President and Toledo co-promoter Ron Drager and his business partner, Roy Mott, purchased Toledo.

 

An optional open practice will be held Friday evening, September 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Friday’s timetable has the pits open at 1, with rig parking, tire sales and some tech taking place before the practice session. 

 

Saturday the pits will open at 9:30 a.m., practice begins at noon, time trials are set for 3 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m.  A rain date of Sunday, September 21 at 1 p.m. has been established, if needed.
