"24 Hours of Lemons" Moves To Toledo For 2008

TOLEDO, OH (9-2-2008)-- After a successful race at Flat Rock Speedway in 2007, the “24 Hours of Lemons” race, featuring cars with less than a $500 value, will now move to Toledo Speedway this season.  The date is Saturday/Sunday, September 13/14.

California resident Jay Lamm, creator of the event, has elected to move to the Toledo facility to accommodate more cars.  The track layout will use the pit road and turns 3 and 4 of the ½ mile oval, with several chicanes built into that area of the speedway.  The cars will then make a left turn up onto the ¼ mile, cross the start/finish line and begin their next lap.

Officials for the event, from DriversDoor Contract Publishing, have some wild and crazy twists and turns to the event.  The first one was staged at Altamont, CA Speedway in November, 2006, and came away with coverage in magazines such as Sport Compact Car, Car and Driver, Sports Car International, Auto Week and European Car.

“The round-the-clock race has all kinds of things that are uncommon to weekly racing—the idea is to have fun and say that you competed in a 24 hour race,” noted Lamm.  The winner collects his money in nickels…around $1500 worth!  Some driver will be selected during the race and will be tarred and feathered-corn syrup and pillow feathers—and sent back out to race!  The list of gimmicks and stunts is endless as the 24 hours wears on.
