Fair Jr.-Whisman-Arnold Jr. Take 2008 Toledo Titles

TOLEDO, OH (8-31-2008)--  Harold Fair Jr., Dennis Whisman and Dave Arnold Jr. captured the 2008 Season Championship titles at Toledo Speedway on a beautiful Sunday evening.  Dave Kuhlman took the 100 lap ARCA Allegiant Air Gold Cup Late Model feature race and Fair Jr.’s second place run was enough to snare his 2nd Gold Cup title in a row.

The 100 lap Late Model contest was run in just over 41 minutes as only 2 yellow flags slowed the pace.  Claude Plante Jr. led the start of the event, setting a quick pace from the start.  With an inversion of 12, fast qualifier Fair Jr. (15:188) made his way to the front while Kuhlman, starting 7th, worked his way to lead on lap 25.  Dave set a tremendous pace as Fair Jr. shadowed him for the final 75 laps.  The lead duo worked their way in and out of traffic and Fair took a couple of looks inside and high, but Kuhlman was up to the task as he sailed to the win.  Dave’s schedule has been limited due to his work commitments, and he was up on the wheel all night long.  Fair Jr. came home second, netting the Gold Cup title in the process.  Third was Plante with a great run, fourth went to Dennis Strickland and fifth was Justin Schroeder, followed by Ron Allen, Steve Cronenwett Jr., Jeff Bailey, Harold Fair Sr. and rookie Bill Litogot.  The top 2 were the only cars on the lead lap.  22 cars were on hand for the final Gold Cup race of the season.

The wild 25 lap ARCA Speedway Bar and Grille Figure 8 championship was won by Jeremy Vanderhoof, who took the lead 235.125.jpgafter race leader Dennis Whisman tangled with Eddie Snorf on lap 14.  Vanderhoof slid by and held back Robbie Loving for the win, while Whisman limped around on a flat tire and came home 9th, giving him a 5 point margin for the 2008 track title over Vanderhoof.  Anthony Terris came home third in the feature race, fourth was Scott Apperson and fifth went to Brice Thomsen, followed by Dan Apperson, Randy Roberts, Gary Cronenwett, Whisman and Nick Bradley.  Loving and Whisman took the heat race wins.

Second-generation driver Dave Arnold Jr. took the feature win and the 2008 title as he sailed to victory in the 25 lap ARCA A-1 Auto Parts Factory Stock championship race.  Dave led every lap as he topped Mike Hassen, Josh Bunting, Gary Cronenwett, Archie Padgett, Brian Ringger, Tim Shine, Matt Ringger, Don Cox and Randy Padgett.  Art LaFreniere won the 15 lap B Main, with Dan Harper second, Ryan Cronenwett third, Mike Hacker fourth and Anthony Camilli fifth.  Fast time for the 27 car field was set by Arnold Jr. at 11:934.  Shine, Ramon Ortiz and LaFreniere took the heat race wins.

Michelle Ringger won the Wives/girlfriend race, while Ken Davis took the Mechanics race.
