Glass City 200 Undergoes Changes For 2008

TOLEDO, OH  (8-25-2008)--  Due to the soft economy, the 20th running of the Miller Lite Glass City 200, set for Saturday, September 20, will see a change for this season.  The Late Model invitational, which has been a 200 lap contest, will now become a 150 lap feature race for this year.  Ticket prices have been reduced $5 each and pit passes will also see a $5 reduction.  A cash purse of over $55,000 is up for grabs for the fall classic at the ½ mile paved oval.

“This change for the Glass City 200 is very difficult but also very necessary,” stated Ron Drager, co-promoter of Toledo and President of ARCA.  “My grandfather (the late John Marcum) created this race, and this event holds a very special place for not only myself, but for many racers and fans alike.  The economic conditions as they are have forced us to take a step back, with the anticipation of going back to the 200 lap format for 2009.”

Race fans will see 200 laps of feature racing September 20.  In addition to the 150 lap Late Model event, the ARCA Sportsman will contest the R & M Recycling 35 lap main event, also on the ½ mile, while the Factory Stocks will bang fenders in a 15 lap feature on the Figure 8 course.

The 150 lap feature will have a 20 minute break at lap 76, which will allow teams to re-fuel, change tires and work on their cars.

The Late Model invitational is still expected to draw a field of 35-40 machines, with $5500 posted to win the 150 lap feature.  The start money will remain the same as the 200 lap contest at $1000.  Kayo Lumber and Royal Truck and Trailer Sales have put up $500 for the fast qualifier.  Other bonus awards include a $500 product certificate to the winner, courtesy of Port City Racecars if in a Port City chassis; $250 Burge Wrecking Most Improved Position; $250 Penkse Shocks product certificate to the winner; $100 product certificates to the 8th and 12th place finishers from All Star Performance; $100 product certificates to the winner and 10th place from Holley Carbs; $100 Aero Wheels product certificates to the winner and 5th place; and $100 Earl’s Fittings product certificates to the winner and 20th place in the 150 lap main event.

Allegiant Air, the sponsor of the track’s 5-race Gold Cup Series in 2008, will also award 2 round-trip tickets from Toledo to Orlando, Florida to the winner of the prestigious event.

The return of the Champions Program, this year sponsored by LV Alliance, will award $200 and an entry to the Late Model track champions at the following tracks:  Dixie Motor Speedway, Kalamazoo Speedway, Spartan Speedway, Angola Motor Speedway, Flat Rock Speedway, Toledo Speedway and the current point leader of the Main Event Series.  Should the track champs not compete in the Glass City race, the award will go to the highest point man at the respective tracks that enters and competes in the September 20 event at Toledo.

The top 20 qualifiers will be locked into the 150 lap show, with 3 provisional starting spots set aside for the top 20 from the final Toledo Gold Cup points and 1 more for the final Flat Rock top 20.  The top 6 from the 25 lap DTS-sponsored B Main race will also advance to fill the 30 car starting field.

An optional practice session will be held Friday, September 19.  The pit area will open at 1 p.m. for rig parking, tire sales and tech.  The practice will go from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Late Models and Sportsman cars only.

Saturday’s schedule has the pits opening at 9:30 a.m., practice at noon, time trials at 3 and racing at 5 p.m.  A rain date of Sunday, September 21 at 1 p.m. has been set.

Pit passes are $35 for Saturday only or $45 for the 2 days.  Front gate admission is now $20 per adult, children 6-14 are $3 and under 6 will be admitted free.  Parking is free of charge on the track grounds.

Entries will be mailed out August 26 and are available by calling the track at 419-727-1100.  The entry form may also be downloaded here pdf glasscity200-entryblank2008
