Santa Claus and Hot Racing at Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (7-11-2008)--  A hot, steamy night provided some great racing action at Toledo Speedway Friday night for the Velvet Ice Cream Christmas in July prize give-away promotion.  Santa Claus handed out dozens of prizes to race fans while Jeff Nelson of Velvet presented trophies to the winners.  Ron Allen, Jeremy Miller, Landon Schuster, Matt Ringger and Brad Turner posted feature events wins in their respective classes.

A sensational 3-car battle had the fans cheering as Ron Allen nosed out Jim Froling to win the 35 lap ARCA National City Bank Sportsman contest.  Chad Guinn jumped into the lead at the start and battled Rick Sheppard, Allen and Froling at the beginning of the contest.  Guinn nosed out front and Allen and Froling moved up on the leader and the trio put on a great battle for 20 laps.  On lap 25, Guinn slid high, Allen dipped low and Froling high in a 3-wide move at the stripe for the number 1 spot.  Allen emerged with the lead and held on to grab the win over Froling, Guinn, Sheppard, Scott Bross, Art Rozane, Jarod MacZink, Tom O’Leary IV, Jeff King and Scott Lockenour.  Froling posted the fast time at 17:563 for the 17 car field, with Guinn and Tom O’Leary IV taking the heat race wins.

The ARCA Speedway Bar and Grille Figure 8 20 lap main event went non-stop with Jeremy Miller avoiding intersection traffic on his way to the victory.  Dennis Whisman came from 7th to finish second, Jeremy Vanderhoof was third, Scott Apperson fourth and Brice Thomsen fifth, followed by Randy Roberts, Anthony Terris, Eddie Snorf, Gary Cronenwett and Chuck Pankow.  Whisman and Terris took the heat race wins.

Landon Schuster snared the lead on lap 4 as he sailed to victory in the all-green flag 20 lap ARCA A-1 Auto Parts Factory Stock main event.  On the start, the front row of Don Cox and Rick Cousino Jr. slid up the track, giving AJ Padgett the bottom groove and a path to the front.  AJ stayed there until Landon snuck by on lap 4 and edged Cory McCaughey to grab his first win of the year.  Third was Eric Huston by inches over Dave Arnold Jr., with fifth spot to Padgett.  Josh Bunting, Mike Hassen, Brian Ringger, Jesse Carillo and Rick Cousino rounded out the top ten finishers.  Matt Ringger topped Kent Jones, Keith Wilson, Chris Pauwels, Dennis Futrel, James Harmon to win the 10 lap B Main feature.  Arnold set fast time at 11:905 for the 25 car field.  Rick Cousino Jr., Mike Mills and Futrel won the heat races, with Craig Osenbaugh notching the last-chance race win.

Early leader Perry Marlow gave way to Brad Turner on lap 4, as Turner cruised to the victory in the 20 lap ARCA David’s Jewelry 4 Cylinder feature race of the evening.  Matt Brazeau made a 3-wide move to grab second late in the event, with David Price, Perry Marlow, Michael Marlow, Jimmy Little, Eric Padgett and Alan Jones next in line at the finish of the non-stop event.  Brazeau set fast time at 13:245, with the heat race to Perry Marlow.

Friday, July 18 at Toledo Speedway is Marco’s Pizza Night, featuring the MSA wild, winged Super Modifieds.  The ARCA Sportsman and Factory Stocks will also be in action.  Gates open at 4:30 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
