Longtime ARCA member Rob Durell passes

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - Longtime ARCA member Robert N. "Rob" Durell, age 50, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 28, 2014. A 1981 graduate of Whitmer High School, Rob was an avid race fan and crew chief for Randy Cornett and Dave Arnold at Toledo Speedway. Durell helped guide Cornett to the 1999 ARCA Street Stock championship at Toledo.

Born on September 11, 1963 to Robert E. and Jackie (Lytten) Durell in Toledo, he was a Michigan Wolverine, Cleveland Brown's and NASCAR enthusiast. Throughout his life he was very involved with auto repairs, and worked at various dealerships and garages in Toledo. He was a faithful member of Bill Wilson's family and support group.

Rob's father, Bob Durell, was an ARCA licensed mechanic on cars driven by John Anderson and Jim Clarke among others, and was a longtime employee of Denny and Jack McNutt's Mini Performance and Specialties in Toledo which built many ARCA Mini-Stock and open wheel midget racing engines.

Rob's family will remember him for his sense of humor and compassion he had for others. Most precious to him were his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Trish (Moncada) Durell; parents, Bob and Jackie Durell; children, Rachel Durell, Kenny Vasquez, Linda (P.J.) Moncada, Erika Moncada and Elizabeth Hornik; grandchildren, Bryan, Steffane, Anthony, Mackenzie, Kenny Jr.and Audrianna; sisters, Kelly (Thomas) McDonald and Jodi (Steve) Przymierski; many nieces and nephews; faithful companion, Harley and a host of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his God Mother, Deborah Mangotic.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home where the family will receive guests from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
