TOLEDO’S ¼ MILE TRACK GETS FACELIFT; SPEED51.COM, BCSN TO COVER GLASS CITY

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 19, 2013) - Preparations continue as the Saturday, September 28 25th Anniversary of the Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 presented by Francis Engineering, Woodville Auto Finance, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express nears.  The 200 lap outlaw-bodied Late Model invitational is set for Saturday, September 28 at Toledo Speedway.

Toledo’s ¼ mile paved oval has received a facelift, as a coat of sealer has been applied to the surface.  A test patch was in place for the season, and now the small track has been covered with the sealer from turns 1 to turn 4 of the short oval.  Monroe Asphalt applied the Sealmaster product to the ¼ mile last Friday.  The track will now be known as the “Sealmaster ¼ mile oval.”

A short test session Wednesday night went well.   The surface is smoother and the “pebbling” that has been occurring to the track for the past several years has been greatly reduced.  Indications are that there is more grip in the second lane of the short track also.  The ultimate test will be next Saturday when the 30 lap X Car Invitational hits the track as part of the 200 weekend.

Several sections of the track parking lot and the driveway to the pit area is now covered with asphalt millings, providing a very solid base.  Gerken Paving, the company that repaved Toledo in 2001, provided the millings, while Monroe Asphalt and Burge Wrecking has been leveling out the product throughout the track grounds.

“We would like to extend our thanks to Sealmaster, Monroe Asphalt, Gerken Paving and Burge Wrecking for their efforts in assisting us to complete these projects before the Glass City 200 weekend,” said Ron Drager, owner and promoter of the track.

SPEED51.com will provide live coverage on race day from the speedway, while the Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN) will tape the race, with airing at a later date on the Toledo-area cable access channel.

The title sponsor is Great Lakes Helicopter, while presenting sponsors include Francis Engineering, Woodville Auto Finance, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express.  DTS Drive Train Specialists, R & M Recycling, First Care Ambulance, Burge Wrecking, Penske Shocks, All Star Performance, Lane Automotive, Bazell Race Fuels and Sunoco Race Fuels have also pledged their support for the event.

Lap money is available at $10 per lap, and goes to the leader of each lap.  The list is available on the track’s webpage.  To sponsor laps, please call 419-727-1100.

Friday, September 27 the pit area opens at 2 p.m. for rig parking, tech and tire sales for all 3 classes.  An optional practice session will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Anyone that purchases a pit pass on Friday will receive a FREE dinner from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., courtesy of Francis Engineering of Leroy, OH.  The band Distant Cousinz will play after dinner at the Bar/Grille, located adjacent to the speedway.

The Saturday, September 28 race day schedule has the pits open at 9:30 a.m., driver’s meeting at 11:30, practice at 12:15, time trials at 3 and racing at 5 p.m.  A rain date of Sunday, September 29 at 1 p.m. has been established.
