25TH ANNIVERSARY OF GREAT LAKES HELICOPTER GLASS CITY 200 SEPT. 28--ENTRIES GO OUT TODAY!

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 28, 2013) - Entry blanks for the 25th Anniversary of the Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 presented by Francis Engineering, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express will go out in today’s mail!  The entry blank will also be posted on the track’s webpage under forms.

Toledo Speedway is the site of this prestigious event, which will mark the Silver Anniversary of the race with a purse increase for each of the 30 starting positions.  The race will take place Saturday, September 28.  The winner will take home $6500 and the race pays $1100 to start.  Additional bonus money and contingency awards are also up for grabs.  The 200 lap race is the longest event for outlaw-bodied Late Models in the Midwest.

A 40 lap Sportsman invitational on the ½ mile and a 30 lap “X” Car invitational on the short track are also on the schedule.  Entry blanks for both of these divisions are also posted on the track’s webpage under forms.

Wayland, MI driver Terry Senneker Jr. is the defending champion of the 200.  Terry grabbed the lead in the 2012 edition of the race when Steve Needles had an engine let go in the final laps.

The race was the idea of ARCA founder and then-Toledo promoter John Marcum.  The speedway is in the process of contacting all former Glass City 200 winners for the 25th Anniversary of the race.  The late Joy Fair was the winner of the inaugural event in 1968.  Other winners of the 200 include Joe Ruttman (1969, 1973), Bob Senneker (1970, 1971, 1977); Danny Byrd (1972); the late John Anderson (1974); the late Jim Bickerstaff (1975); Ed Cooper (1976).   The race was not run from 1978 to 1998, but was revived in 1999 when Ron Drager (Marcum’s grandson) and Roy Mott purchased the track.  Tim Felver captured the win in 1999, Tim Ice in 2000 and Canadian Jr. Hanley in 2001.

The next 3 years saw an amazing feat accomplished by Saginaw, MI veteran Steve Sauve, as Steve strung together 3 victories in a row in 2002, 2003 and 2004.  John Doering Jr. snapped Sauve’s record with the 2005 victory.  Jack Landis (2006), Brian Campbell (2007), Harold Fair Jr. (2008, 2010), Dave Kuhlman (2009) and Alabama legend Augie Grill (2011) have also etched their names in history at the Glass City 200.

PASSTIME will award $500 to the Fast Qualifier for the 200, while Francis Engineering has posted $200 for the leader at the lap 100 mark.  The Most Improved Position $250 bonus is courtesy of Burge Wrecking of Toledo.  Penske Shocks will award the winner a $250 gift certificate.  DTS Drive Train Specialists will serve as sponsor of the B Main event and will award a total of five $50 labor/parts certificates in a random draw.  The 30th place driver will also get a DTS certificate.

In addition to Great Lakes Helicopter, sponsors include Francis Engineering, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, DTS Drive Train Specialists, R & M Recycling, First Care Ambulance, Burge Wrecking, Penske Shocks, Bazell Race Fuels, Sunoco Race Fuels and PASSTIME  Additional sponsors will be announced as they are secured.
