FROLING-QUINLEN-PRICE-EARLEY-MCKAY JR/BRAZEAU FLAT ROCK VICTORS

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 20, 2013) - The heat subsided for another action-packed night of racing at Flat Rock Speedway Saturday.  Not only was Santa Claus in town for the Christmas in July Prize Giveaway, the ACME Dismantling Sportsman, ARCA 4-Cylinders, Michigan Legends, Parts Galore Figure-8’s and a Figure 8 Train race provided the fans a great night of entertainment!

The ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman cars, which run at Toledo, made their first trip to Flat Rock for a 50 lap feature. Chad Guinn and Kenny McKay Jr. started on the front row, with McKay Jr. taking lead early on.  Jim Froling moved up on the outside lane and grabbed second from Guinn, with Ron Allen also getting by to move into third.  Froling was working the inside for first from McKay Jr, as now Mike Young and Allen had their own battle for third.  Froling gave up working the inside for the lead, and switched to the outside, which proved to be the winning move coming around turn 3 in lap 19.  Lap 20 had some heavy traffic with the lead cars lapping their competitors.  Mike Young was able to pivot around the lapped cars for second, but in lap 23 the first caution was displayed when Rich Abel spun out.  Froling and Young were 1-2 on the restart, with Froling nosing back into the lead.  Allen took over second on lap 39, but another caution on lap 47 would make the restart entertaining.  Both Allen and Froling wanted first, however the checkered flag would have to wait once more when Jeff Myers Jr. and Greg Stilwell tangled.  The final restart of the night saw Froling win out to sail into the Sun Drop victory lane with Allen in second, Young third, Guinn fourth and Kyle DeLisle Jr. fifth, followed by Norm Lewallen, Greg Stilwell, Myers Jr., Chad Stilwell and Abel.  Froling and Lewallen captured the heat wins.  Allen set quick time at 13:266.

7-20_4_cylinder_29.jpgThe ARCA 4-Cylinder 20 lap feature went all green flag.   Kyle Worley and David Katafiasz started on the pole, but right after the wave of the green flag, Worley lost speed and pulled into the infield.  Jeff Metdepenningen cut in fast for that second position, but Katafiasz wasn’t going to let him have that spot for long.  Metdepenningen would get ahead of Katafiasz, but only for a split second.  Katafiasz was right on his tail or riding side-by-side, and their racing kept David Price from challenging for the lead.  In lap 17, they were racing three-wide when Price was able to find a groove in the outside and stole first.  Price held on for the win with Katafiasz,  Kyle Worley and Metdepennigen next in line at the stripe.  Metdepenningen won the heat and set quick time at 14:905.

7-20_fr_legends.jpgThe green-white-checkered 25 lap Michigan Legends feature was one for the record books.  Josh Indig had Matt Todd as competition for the first few laps of the race.  Grant Quinlen came out of nowhere for second, making the top three cars in a tight pack battling for the lead.  Matt Todd led the first 9 laps, but Quinlen drove off with first in lap 10 and Sean McPherson took second in lap 11.  The remaining 9 laps saw plenty of action as the field raced door to door.  14 year-old Grant Quinlen got his first victory at Flat Rock Speedway in the event.  Tony Monge came in second, Todd third, McPherson fourth and Cole Landau completed the top five.  Indig, Greg Rudzik, Evan Findley, Matt Hutchinson and Gary Joppich completed the top ten.  Monge and Todd claimed heat wins.  McPherson set fast time at 13:767.

7-20_f8_sp_09.jpgFans couldn’t believe it was another green-white-checkered feature in the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 main event.  Robbie Loving and Billy Earley set the early pace for the race.  Earley charged into the lead, while Greg Studt took over second from Loving early in the event.  The field was stringing out with a lot of close calls in the intersection, making fans sit on the edge of their seats!  14 year old Race Loving, who was filling in for Danny Gaddis, provided some thrills in his Figure 8 racing debut!  Studt was putting up a heavy fight to try and clinch first from Earley, however Billy waved the checkered flag in victory lane.  Rounding out the top five were Studt, Robbie Loving, Jeremy Vanderhoof and Dennis Whisman. Jerry Lee, Randy Roberts, Race Loving, Dan Apperson, Stephanie Bradley, Ian Jezylo and Jeremy Fragassi were next in the finishing order.  Whisman and Stephanie Bradley captured the heat races.

The 12 lap Figure-8 Train race was a great way to end the night.  Kenny McKay Jr and Jim Brazeau got the lead early in the race and held their ground to pull into victory lane.  Tommy O’Leary/James McClure, Howard Kelley Jr./Tom O’Leary III, Tom O’Leary Jr./Charlie Williams and Scott Apperson/Jeremy Fragassi were the other duos that provide the fun and excitement!
