DIAMOND RACING PRODUCTS JOY FAIR MEMORIAL RESET FOR AUGUST 10

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 11, 2013) - With any luck, the third time will be the charm for Flat Rock Speedway’s Diamond Racing Joy Fair Memorial 100.  The race has now been rescheduled for Saturday, August 10.  The original date was June 22 and the second attempt was set for July 6.  Both dates were victims of heavy rains that have saturated the area in the past 3 weeks.

A superb field of 36 Late Models was at the track on both earlier dates before the rain set in.  Another big field is expected for the makeup date for the August 10 date.

The race is part of the ARCA Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series, a group of 6 races for the 2013 season.  Scott Hantz was the winner of the Hollywood Casino 100 at Toledo Speedway May 10, while Steve Cronenwett Jr. captured the June 30 Charlie Ryan Jr. Memoriai100 lap contest at the Spartan (Lansing, MI) Speedway.  Round 3 is at Toledo Friday, July 12 with the Parts Galore 100.  Leg 4 is back at Flat Rock for the Moran Chevrolet-Stan Yee Memorial 150 July 27, and leg 5 is the Fair Memorial August 10.  The series wraps up at Toledo Friday, August 16 with the Miller Lite 100, a combination event with the Main Event Late Model Series.

Fair is considered as one of the legendary drivers in the history of short track racing, amassing over 800 wins in a career that spanned 6 decades.  Joy is the all-time win leader at Flat Rock with 159 victories and 10 track championships, and his record at Toledo, Flat Rock’s sister track, is nearly as impressive.  The driver of the school-bus yellow number 1 captured 97 Toledo wins and netted 7 track titles, not to mention hundreds of wins and more championships at tracks in several states and Canada during his illustrious career.

Flat Rock unveiled the naming of the Joy Fair Grandstand late last season. Members of Joy’s family will attend the event and take part in pre- and post-race ceremonies to honor his memory.  Fair passed away in December of 2011 at the age of 81.

The August 10 event will see the 100 lap Fair Memorial race, plus the ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman division.  The class competes at Toledo and will be making their 2nd trip to Flat Rock for 2013.   The Parts Galore Figure 8 division will also be in action.  Race time is 7 p.m.

In another re-scheduling, the Michigan Legends Cars have been added to the Saturday, July 20 show at Flat Rock.  Their June 29 race at the track was also a victim of rain.
