Trackside Tidbits by Debi Domby

Four- time SLM champion (2004, 2008, 2009, 2011) Eric Lee’s second win of the season is a milestone for him. With the two wins this season it gives him 20 wins, tying him with his father Steve and Dick Barker for ninth on the Career Flat Rock Late Model win list. Rick Knowles with 22 wins is the next one on the list for Eric to pass. “What a great way to start out the season with 2 wins. We had a good run tonight the car was turning good and stayed consistent the entire race hopefully we can keep this momentum going.  I have to thank my crew and sponsors: Action Drywall, Lee Motorsports, Arrow Uniform, D&E Landscaping and Powertran Transformers.”

Terry Bogusz finished a career high third in the Late Model feature. “Had a real good run Saturday night, the car was getting better every time I went out, I have to thank my whole crew and family; especially crew chief Rick McColl, for all there hard work in getting our racing program running up front, Have to thank also Dick Meyers from Ram Engineering for all the chassis set up stuff and Mike McColl from McColl Racing Enterprise for all the help with reworking the front and rearend of this car. Tadek Stadniczuk won his third career Street Stock A division feature this week. “A big thank you to everyone on the DTS Racing Team. Dave and Gary always work hard on the car. Our mom Shelley, Emily, Amy, Amy and all the kids are always there with so much support. We couldn't do it without all of you. Thanks to Rich Frantz for helping out in the pits today too. Also thanks to our sponsors Monroe County Breast Center, Dr. David Clark and Bedford Dental, Health Services Connection, 1 Stop Speed Shop, Speedway Golf Carts and Budget Tire.”

Finishing a career second was rookie Corey Duane. “I just want it to say thank you to my awesome wife Lindsay Duane and father Michael Duane for helping every week. And thank you to the Limelight guys for all there help buiding and setting up the car. Paul P, David P, Brian B, Alex K, Keith T, Mike D, Rich T. They all make it possible to go out and have a blast.”

Dennis Whisman won the Figure 8 feature. I’ll get his quote and sponsors next week. It was starting to rain pretty hard at the end of the race, and although my pen writes on semi-wet paper, it was a bit too wet.

It must’ve been in the air as we had two drivers return to racing after being out of driver’s seat for about 20 years.

Gary Calhoun returns in the car Tim Moore was in last week. The car was still jumping out of gear and the team was at a lost of why. Gary made about half the feature before dropping out with mechanical problems.

The other driver returning was Kevin MacKenzie, who was driving his son’s car. It’s been about 20 years since the Canadian driver raced and around 30 years since he’s raced at Flat Rock. The car was having a fuel pump problem and Kevin was unable to qualify. He finished 15th. An interesting thing about his car, it was the car formerly driven by fellow Canadian Sean Monahan and still had some of Sean’s familiar purple on the car.

Also returning after several years gone was Roger Blackstock. A engine problem put him back in the trailer after hot laps.
