MIKE ORDWAY SR CAPTURES MSA FLAT ROCK VICTORY

(FLAT ROCK, MI – May 25, 2013) - Flat Rock Speedway hosted the MSA Super Modifieds Saturday night.  Mike Ordway Sr. made the trip from Fremont, New Hampshire and grabbed the 40 lap feature win, holding back Moe Lilje in a great run to the finish.  Clyde McKee edged out Grant Hedges in another great finish to win the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock main, while Robbie Loving scored the win in the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 race.  The evening concluded with a fireworks show.

While no driver got near the 9 second bracket in time trials, Mike McVetta did set the pace for the MSA Super Modifieds in qualifying with a 10.488.  The track got faster as the night went on and was in great shaped by feature time.  Brad Wyatt and Bobby Dawson brought the field to the green flag, with Dawson charging out front.  Charlie Schultz hopped Dawson’s wheel coming out of turn 4 and clipped the wall just past the start/finish line, causing the first caution of the night.  After the restart, Mike Ordway Sr. began his charge to the front, along with Trent Stephens.  Stephens began to make up ground on the leader, but Ordway Sr. was on the move and grabbed the lead.  Moe Lilje passed Stephens to gain that second position in lap 29 and caught Ordway with 10 to go.  Moe actually pulled even with Ordway, but lapped traffic came into play, allowing the New Hampshire driver to stay on top of the 40 lap main for his win, just edging Lilje, at the stripe.  Stephens was third, Mike Ordway Jr. fourth and McVetta fifth, followed by Matt Marlow, Dawson, Brad Wyatt, Jon Henes, Schultz and Kevin Jaycox Jr.  Schultz and McVetta notched the heat race wins.

5-25_f-8_16.jpgJerry Lee and Robbie Loving started on the front row for the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature.  Loving held first the first 9 laps, and on lap 10 the red flag came out when Dennis Whisman had an engine let go, coating the track with oil.  On the restart, Jeremy Miller raced his way past Lee to take the second spot, and just 2 laps later, another red flag appeared when Jeremy Fragassi stalled out in the middle of the intersection.  Jerry Lee could not avoid Jeremy and crashed into the back end of his car, ending both of their nights.  The race resumed and top 5 runner Billy Earley dropped out in lap 15 as the race wound down.  Loving held the point and sailed to the win, notching the weekend sweep as he also was the winner at Toledo Friday night.  Miller was second, Chris Cox piloted the Anthony Terris machine to third, Danny Gaddis was fourth and Jeremy Vanderhoof fifth.  Greg Studt, Danny Apperson, Scott Apperson, Randy Roberts and Stephanie Bradley were next in line to complete the top 10.  Cox and Gaddis won the heats, while Studt set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 20.777.

5-25_ss_4.jpgA tremendous run by Clyde McKee nosed out a fabulous run by Grant Hedges and the rest of the field to win the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock feature.  Tim Moore had some car issues when his gears kept slipping, causing him to pull into the infield shortly after the first caution.  McKee held onto first spot but had to battle Hedges and Rob Moore for the win.  Rookie Corey Duane was an early challenger but fell back a bit as the laps wound down.  With Hedges on the outside lane and Moore in the low groove, the duo swapped 2nd back and forth.  With 2 laps to go, Hedges made his bid for the win as he pulled even and actually got by McKee by a nose.  Clyde battled back and darted out front coming to the stripe and the checkered flag for the exciting finish, McKee’s 2nd win of the season.  Hedges came up just a bit short to take second, Rob Moore was right on the bumper of the leaders for third, Guy Fire took fourth and Scott Selmi was fifth.  The top 6 ran in a pack for much of the race, concluding a great night of racing at the track.  Chad Guinn, Joe Haener, Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast qualifier Landon Schuster (13:578), Scot Bunge and Danny Bennett completed the top 10.  Corey Duane, Chris Fitzpatrick and Dennis Helsel were the heat race winners.
