FLAT ROCK READY FOR JET’S PIZZA SEASON OPENER; 60TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - April 11, 2013) - Saturday, April 27 Flat Rock Speedway will open its gates to begin the 60th Anniversary season at the Telegraph Road speedplant.  The Jet’s Pizza Opening Day event will feature the ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models, Parts Galore Figure 8’s and the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks for a full race card at the ¼ mile asphalt oval.

The 2013 schedule of events has racing every Saturday night through September 14.  A variety of race cars and Touring Series will make the trip to Flat Rock for the special season.  The official celebration of the 60th Anniversary is set for Saturday, July 6.  Each division of cars-Late Models, Figure 8’s and Street Stocks-will each run 60 lap main events, and the evening will be capped off with the biggest Fireworks display in the history of the track.

Renovations for the season include the replacement of the poles and catch fencing in the turn 3-4 area, as well as replacement of a section of the concrete wall in turn 2 of the oval.  The speedway’s parking lot received a base of asphalt millings last year to create a vastly-improved lot for race fans.

Flat Rock Speedway offers great family fun at an affordable price, including great prices at the track’s concession stands.  In addition to the arrival of Jet’s Pizza in the concession stands, Coldstone Ice Cream will also be featured this season, joining the usual compliment of track food fare, including the Dr. Pepper/Snapple list of soft drinks.

Children ages 6-12 are just $3 each, and under 6 are admitted free of charge with a paid adult admission. Parking is always free on the grounds of the speedway.

In addition to 3 nights of Fireworks displays, the track also offers a Scout Night, a pair of Kids Nights, when kids to age 14 are admitted FREE and receive a FREE hot dog, chips and a drink.  The annual Christmas-In-July Prize Giveaway, complete with a visit from Santa Claus is also on the schedule.  Autograph Nights with the track’s race teams is always a big hit with fans of all ages.  And, of course, the wildly-popular School Bus Figure 8 races (two dates) return for this special season of activity.

An open practice for race teams is slated for Saturday, April 20 from Noon to 5; the pit area will open at 10 a.m. Another test session is set for Wednesday, April 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
