STANDING-ROOM ONLY CROWD JAMS “THE ROCK” FOR SCHOOL BUS FIGURE 8 SHOW

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - September 15, 2012) - The largest crowd in several years ventured to Flat Rock Speedway Saturday night for the Griller’s Select BBQ Sauce School Bus Figure 8 races.  The final race of the season saw standing-room only at the track, and the fans were treated to a spectacular evening of entertainment.  Costa Cardasis and his Griller’s Select staff presented trophies in victory lane ceremonies as well as a case of bbq sauce to each feature winner.

The headliner School Bus Figure 8 race was wild!  3 buses got knocked over on their sides as the gigantic crowd roared each time.  And, each time the bus was rolled back on all 4 wheels and the drivers jumped back in and re-joined the action!  Stephanie Bradley thrilled the crowd early in the contest as she went over, thanks to Dennis Whisman’s help!  She jumped back in the bus and took off as the race resumed.  Danny Gaddis was next to go over as Billy Earley slammed into Danny at the intersection.  Next up was Danny’s father, Ray, as Ray got tagged going into the turn and went over.  Thinking his day was done, Ray went up into the grandstands, but found out his bus re-started.  Ray, the leader at the time, got back in the seat and kept the lead for the win over Earley, Robbie Loving, Danny Gaddis, Bradley, Whisman, and Gary Majchrzak.  Bus sponsors were Suburban Oil, Griller’s Select BBQ Sauce, Parts Galore, Sportway Go-Karts and Batting Cages, Southern Belles Roller Derby Team, Sterling Printing and Graphics and Glass Unlimited.

Robbie Loving and Mark Lavoie were co-winners in the Figure 8 Boat Race.  Ian Jezylo, using his Figure 8 machine to tow a boat, lost his boat and Loving chased him down and slammed into the boat, knocking the trailer and all away from Ian’s machine.  Bill Carberry had his boat break loose and Loving took shot after shot at Lavoie’s boat and trailer.   Mark’s boat and trailer, in a shower of sparks, got pounded by Loving, with a piece of the boat lodging in the front end of Robbie’s Figure 8 car.

f-8_winner_9-15.jpgThe ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 division ran a 20 lap feature, with Danny Apperson holding off Billy Earley and Greg Studt for the win.  Studt applied the pressure in the early stages, but Earley slipped by with 5 to go and nosed under Danny several times, but to no avail as Apperson scored his 1st win of the season.  Earley was second, Studt third, a fast-closing Danny Gaddis was fourth and Loving fifth, followed by Chris Cox, Scott Apperson, Dennis Whisman, AnthonyTerris, Ian Jezylo, Stephanie Bradley and James Murphy.

ss_winner_9-15.jpgSeveral yellow flags slowed the action in the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock Main event.  There was no qualifying as the heat race finishes and an inversion by the roll of the dice determined the starting field positions.  A hard crash in turn 1 in the first few laps eliminated several cars.  Rich Abel took the lead early, with Craig Lange getting around Rich on the high side to take control at the lap 8 mark.  Tim Moore charged up to do battle and grabbed the point just past the half-way mark as things settled down and the race went caution-free the rest of the distance.  Tim came home the winner, with Lange second, Kyle Worley third, Dave Tanner fourth and Abel fifth, followed by Steve Chartrand, Clyde McKee, Harold Davis, Terry Lilley and Terry Humphrey.  Paul Duffin, Moore, McKee and Tadek Stadniczuk took the heat race wins.

The speedway has 1 more activity scheduled for 2012.  Sunday, October 7 is the annual Flat Rock Historical Society Flea Market from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Over 200 dealers are expected for this huge event, which has been held at the track for over 30 years.  Admission is free.  No pets are allowed.  For space rental information, call 734-782-5220.

The track is located on Telegraph Road, 5 miles from I-75 or I-275.  Like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/toledoflatrock or follow us on Twitter @flatrockspeed
