LEE-MOORE-YORK-WELLS JR. TAKE FLAT ROCK CHECKERED FLAGS; McCLURE 4 CYLINDER CHAMP

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - August 25, 2012) - Flat Rock Speedway hosted Action Exteriors Kids Night Saturday, with all kids to age 14 admitted to the track free, and each child received a free hot dog, chips and a drink, courtesy of Jim’s Butcher Shop, Sherwood Foods, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and Herr’s Potato Chips.  A nice crowd turned out for a great night of racing and entertainment as Jerry Lee Jr., Tim Moore, Lonnie York and Jeff Wells Jr. took the feature wins.  Ray McClure secured the ARCA 4 Cylinder championship at the ¼ mile paved oval.  The TKC Go-Karts also competed in an exhibition race prior to the start of the show.

The ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature ran 20 laps non-stop, heating up the action at the intersection with near-misses as the crowd screamed with every pass through.  Jerry Lee Jr. returned to the track after several weeks and promptly scored the win, leading all 20 laps.  Current point leader Jeremy Miller applied the pressure to Jerry the entire distance but Lee had just enough to stay out front to grab the win.  Fast qualifier Dennis Whisman (20:901) moved up from his 7th starting spot to grab third in the closing laps, while Robbie Loving was fourth and Billy Earley fifth.  Greg Studt, Gary Cronenwett, Danny Gaddis, Dan Apperson and Scott Apperson completed the top 10 finishers. Cronenwett and Miller captured the heat race wins.

ss_a_winner__83.jpgA great battle for the lead ensued for all 25 laps of the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main event.  With an inversion of 12, Craig Lange started on the pole and drove a great race, holding off several challengers each lap.  Rich Frantz made a bid to pick up his 3rd win of the year, but had a tire go down and dropped out as the laps wound down.  Landon Schuster took to the high lane and raced door to door with Craig, nosing out front on lap 12.  Misfortune struck Landon coming out of turn 4 as his car was overheating and he spun in the process, ending his fine run.  Lange picked up the lead again on the restart, but it was Tim Moore next up.  Moore, who bent up the nosepiece on his car trying to avoid Landon, went to the high side while Lange hung at the bottom.  Grant Hedges tucked in on the bumper of Lange, with several more cars right behind the leaders, tightly bunched in a pack.  On several laps, Moore would nose out front, only to have Lange charge right back under Tim to challenge for the number 1 spot.  With 2 to go, Hedges ran out of asphalt as he dove low on the front straight trying to get the lead, only to spin.  Moore took the lead on lap 24, using the 2nd groove and held on for the victory over a career-best run by Lange with his great second place run.  Frank Jiovani was third, Tadek Stadniczuk fourth and Rob Moore fifth.  Kyle Worley, Steve Searles, Steve Chartrand, Billy Cronce and Chris Fitzpatrick were next in line at the stripe.

The win was Tim’s 2nd in 3 weeks, and the third in a row for the Moore brothers, as Rob captured last week’s feature race.

ss_b_winner__25.jpgFormer B Main champ Lonnie York got by Steve Theobald with 8 laps to go to win the 15 lap Street Stock B Main.  Anthony Camilli also got by Steve and got to Lonnie’s bumper, but settled for second spot.  Theobald was third, Mark Lavoie fourth and Rick Bennett fifth.  Hedges was the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast qualifier with a lap of 13:560, while York led the B cars at 14:556.  Heat race winners were Worley, Joe Haener, Chris Diovardi and Theobald.  It was Theobald’s first-ever checkered flag.  Diovardi’s win came in a 3-wide finish for the win.
