POINT LEADER CARLSON, HANTZ, GANUS, KARGEL, SLATER BUMP FLAT ROCK LIST TO 28

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 24, 2012) - Current ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Series point leader Dakota Carlson of Cedar Springs, MI has inked his entry for Saturday’s Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 at Flat Rock Speedway.  As of noon Tuesday, 28 cars are entered for the race at the ¼ mile paved oval.

Carlson has just a slight 5 point edge over Dennis Strickland and leads Claude Plante Jr. by 35 points heading into the Flat Rock race.  Fourth in the chase for the Gold Cup title is the 2009-2010 champion Mike Root, 40 markers back.  Harold Fair Jr., who has won the last 2 Gold Cup events, including the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 at Flat Rock on June 23, sits in 5th spot, 60 markers back.  The Flat Rock event is leg number 5 of 6 for the Allegiant Gold Cup Series.  The final leg is scheduled for Friday, August 17 at Toledo.

The champion of the Series will get a test in an ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Stock Car at the annual ARCA test in December at Daytona International Speedway.

Other entries received today include that of Indiana native Scott Hantz, who has made only a handful of starts in the Outlaw Late Model ranks this season.  The Bob Blount #16 will make its first trip to Flat Rock with veteran Jeff Ganus at the wheel.  Ganus captured last Saturday’s Late Model win at Kalamazoo Speedway.  Flat Rock resident Ricky Kargel has also entered, along with Late Model rookie Pastor Danny Slater, who has moved up from the Street Stock class at the track.

The event, recognized as one of the top outlaw Late Model events in the area, is expected to draw over 30 entries and will pay $2533 to win and $533 to start the contest.

Flat Rock’s Parts Galore Figure 8 and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock classes will also be in competition as support divisions.  Each class will run features only on this night.

An open practice is scheduled for Wednesday, July 25 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the track for race cars of all types.  The pit area will open at 4 p.m.

In addition to the $2533 posted to win, Diamond Racing Products has posted $333 for fast time, in addition to a $100 gift certificate courtesy of Fastime Racing Engines and Parts of Wyandotte.  Add to that $5 in lap money per lap, and a driver could walk away with nearly $3500 in cash and prizes for a victory.

A total of 22 laps of lap money sponsorship are still available.  The cost is just $5 per lap, with the funds going to the leader of each of the 150 laps.  To sponsor laps, please call the track at 734-782-2480.

The classic honors the memory of Stan Yee Sr., who owned Late Models for over 40 years.  Stan passed away in May of 2008.  His famous #33 cars won numerous big events and championships throughout his career, including the 2003 Flat Rock Late Model crown with his son, Stan Jr., at the controls.

Stan Yee Memorial 150 T-shirts will be available at the Flat Rock Speedway souvenir stand on race night.

Rig parking will begin at 12:15, and then the pits will be cleared.  Pit registration will open at 1 p.m. on July 28, with practice for the Late Models set to begin at 3.  Time trials begin at 5 and racing starts at 7 p.m.  Flat Rock Speedway is located on Telegraph Road, just 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275.  The track phone number is 734-782-2480.
