SANTA CLAUS DELIVERS AT TOLEDO SPEEDWAY

(TOLEDO, Ohio - July 13, 2012) - As promised, Santa Claus made good on the delivery of over 60 prizes that were handed out in the annual Christmas In July promotion Friday evening at Toledo Speedway.  The Jolly Old Elf was at the track to greet fans young and old.  Velvet Ice Cream and Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales served as sponsors of the night of racing at the Glass City track.

Jim Froling, Cory McCaughey, Scott Apperson and Kyle Trinklein took the feature wins and received their trophies in the Sun Drop Winner’s Circle from Gene Little of Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales.

Attrition was the word for the ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman division Friday night.  18 cars were on hand, but mechanical troubles sidelined several teams during practice and the heat races, as well as the 50 lap feature.  3 drivers led the 50 lap headliner, with Howard Kelley Jr. zooming out front on the green flag.  Ron Allen, Mike Young and Jim Froling made it a 4 car freight train as they pulled away from the rest of the field in the first 10 laps.  On lap 10, Allen motored to the top groove and took the lead from Kelley as his engine expired going down the back chute.  Froling got by Young on lap 17 for second spot.  A lap 25 red stopped the action when rookie Jeff Myers Jr., who was running 4th, had the rear end explode in his car, ending his fine run.  Young’s car quit on the red as he was pushed onto pit road.  On the double file restart, Froling stood on the gas and battled door to door with Allen, as Jim nosed his #46 to the lead and held Allen at bay for his first win of the year.  Allen was second, Kent Closkey recorded his best finish with third, Kevin Stahl Jr. did likewise with a fourth place run, and Andy Harding completed the top five with a great finish.  David Frantz, Dan Grigsby, Young, Myers Jr. and David Hinjosa completed the top 10.  Froling posted quick time at 17:279, with Kelley and Harding capturing the heat race wins.

ss_winner_7-13.jpgCory McCaughey nosed under Jeff King at the stripe to win the 20 lap ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stock feature.  King led at the start, with Kyle Huston and McCaughey challenging for the lead.  Huston went to the high side on lap 11 to challenge Jeff, but the pair made contact, flattening Huston’s left front tire and ending his night.  McCaughey stayed glued to King’s bumper, making the winning move at the checkered flag.  Rick Cousino was third, Randy Padgett Jr. fourth and Matt Bunting fifth, followed by Dusty Brunt, Pat Fields, John Rabideau, Kris King and Huston.  Jeff King and Padgett Jr. won the heat races, with McCaughey setting fast time at 11:850.

f-8_winner_21_7-13.jpgThird generation driver Scott Apperson held back the strong challenge of Robbie Loving to win the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature race.  Scott led every lap, but early challenges from Dennis Whisman and then Loving kept things exciting.  Apperson was up to the task to record the victory over Loving, Whisman, Sam Hall, Greg Studt, Archie Padgett, Ian Jezylo and Gary Cronenwett.  Studt took the heat race win.
