2012 ARCA LATE MODEL GOLD CUP CHAMP TO GET TEST AT DAYTONA

Toledo, Ohio—January 27, 2012:  For many drivers, driving a race car at Daytona International Speedway is a dream.  For the 2012 ARCA Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Champion, that dream will come true.  For the second consecutive year, the champion of the 6-race Series will get a test in an ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards stock car, courtesy of Fast Track High Performance Driving School.

Dennis Strickland, the defending Gold Cup champion, took to Daytona during the annual ARCA test in December, giving the Carleton, MI wheelman the ultimate thrill for a stock car driver—running around Daytona!  “It was an experience I will not forget,” noted Strickland, who clocked in a lap at 180.748 in his final session of the 2-day test.  Dennis ran 42 laps for the weekend.

For 2012, Fast Track Driving High Performance Driving School president Andy Hillenburg will once again provide a fully-prepared stock car for the Gold Cup champion to run laps around the 2.5 mile tri-oval.

The Series will expand to six (6) races in 2012 with the addition of a date at the Spartan (Lansing), MI Speedway.  2 events are scheduled at Flat Rock, MI Speedway and 3 races at Toledo, OH Speedway.  The top 3 in the final points of the Series are guaranteed starting spots in the season-ending Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 at Toledo, which is set for Saturday, September 29 this year.

The Gold Cup Series schedule begins at Toledo, Sunday, April 29 with a 100 lap race.  The Spartan 100 lap contest is next up on Sunday, May 27, followed by a 100 lap race at Flat Rock Saturday, June 23.  The Series returns to Toledo Friday, July 6 and rolls back to Flat Rock Saturday, July 28 for the Stan Yee Memorial 150.  The final race of the 6-race Series is at Toledo Friday, August 17, a combination point race with the Main Event Racing Series, also a 100 lap event.

So who will get the chance to test at Daytona in December of 2012???  After 6 events and 650 laps of racing at Flat Rock, Spartan and Toledo, we’ll know….. For additional information for each track, log onto www.flatrockspeedway.com or www.toledospeedway.com.
