SPARTAN SPEEDWAY TO HOST ARCA GLASS CITY GOLD CUP RACE MAY 27

Toledo, Ohio—January 4, 2011:  Spartan (Lansing, MI) Speedway has agreed to host a 100 lap contest for the ARCA Late Models, which will be a part of the ARCA Glass City Gold Cup Series.  The date is Sunday, May 27 at the immaculate ¼ mile paved oval.  The Spartan Stocks, Pony Stocks and a Pony Stock Figure 8 race will also be a part of the Memorial Day weekend race card, part of the popular Spartan “Slugfest” events. 

The Series will expand to six (6) races in 2012 with the addition of the Spartan date.  2 events are scheduled at Flat Rock, MI Speedway and 3 races at Toledo, OH Speedway.  The top 3 in the final points of the Series are guaranteed starting spots in the season-ending Glass City 200 at Toledo, which is set for Saturday, September 29 this year.

“We are very pleased to announce the addition of the race at Spartan,” noted Ron Drager, President of ARCA, the sanctioning body for this race.  “We have a long-standing relationship with Jim Leasure and are very excited to add this race to our Gold Cup Series schedule.  This gives our racers an additional race and will bring new fans and racers to all 3 tracks, which is the ultimate goal.” 

ARCA’s Flat Rock/Toledo staff will provide tech and administration for this event at Spartan.  ARCA Late Model rules, which include the Late Model Alliance body measurement package, will be in effect.  The Hoosier 3035 (left sides) and Hoosier 3045 (right sides) tires will be used for competition for the May 27 Spartan event. Additional information or questions pertaining to the 100 lap Late Model event can be directed to the Toledo track office at 419-727-1100. 

More details will be released in the coming weeks. Dennis Strickland is the defending Gold Cup champion, with Mike Root, Harold Fair Jr., Dakota Carlson and Steve Cronenwett Jr. rounding out the top 5 in the final point standings.   

The Gold Cup Series schedule begins at Toledo, Sunday, April 29 with a 100 lap race.  The Spartan contest is next up on Sunday, May 27, followed by a 100 lap race at Flat Rock Saturday, June 23.  The Series returns to Toledo Friday, July 6 and rolls back to Flat Rock Saturday, July 28 for the Stan Yee Memorial 150.  The final race of the 6-race Series is at Toledo Friday, August 17, a combination point race with the Main Event Racing Series.
