PLANS BEING FINALIZED FOR SUNDAY’S TOLEDO 9-11-11 EVENT

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 9, 2011) - As Sunday’s race at Toledo Speedway nears, plans are being finalized for the EarSmart of Northwest Ohio Stars and Stripes 100 presented by the Toledo Blade and Cumulus Radio.  A pre-race ceremony and an additional salute to the men and women who serve our country here and abroad will take place during the afternoon contest.

In pre-race festivities, a vintage 1933 fully-restored ladder truck, a 1948 Paddy wagon and current police and fire vehicles will take laps on the track.  A large American Flag will be unfurled prior to the playing of the National Anthem.  The speedway, located on Benore Road at the I-75/Alexis Road exit, will also extend an invitation to all current and retired City of Toledo police and firefighters, as well as all military personnel to be their guests for the event, which falls on the 10th anniversary of 9-11.  Proper service ID is required.

Prior to the start of the ARCA Allegiant Glass City Gold Cup 100 lap Late Model event, a host of musical tributes will be played, including the singing of God Bless America by Tom Treece of Monroe, MI.

The EarSmart 100 lap race is the final event in the 5-race ARCA Allegiant Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series and will serve as a tune-up for the upcoming 23rd running of the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200, set for Saturday, October 1.

While each of the top 3 in the final points will receive a pair of round-trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Travel, the Gold Cup champion will get a test drive at Daytona International Speedway in December during the ARCA test, at the wheel of a car prepared by ARCA car owner Andy Hillenberg’s Fast Track High Performance Driving School.

The addition of entries from 3-time Glass City 200 champ Steve Sauve of Saginaw, MI and Cygnet, OH driver Tom O’Leary IV has bumped the pre-entry list to 27 cars as of Friday morning.

The track’s R & M Recycling Street Stocks will be in action with its Season Championship event, with the Hahn’s Collision 50 lap ARCA Truck Series feature also on the September 11 race card.

Race sponsor EarSmart will distribute free ear plugs to race fans at the track, while supplies last, on race day.

The spectator gates will open and practice begins for the race cars at 11 a.m., time trials are set for 12:30, the pre-race ceremony will take place at 1:45 p.m. and racing gets the green flag at 2 p.m.

The track phone number is 419-727-1100.  The current entry list is posted with this story.  For further information, log onto www.toledospeedway.com.
