JR ROAHRIG RETURNS TO TOLEDO FOR SUNDAY’S ALLEGIANT GOLD CUP FINALE’

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 7, 2011) - Toledo July race winner JR Roahrig of Plymouth, IN has filed his entry for Sunday’s EarSmart Stars and Stripes 100 presented by the Toledo Blade and Cumulus Radio at Toledo Speedway.  The Toledo Police Patrolmen’s Association and the Toledo Fire Department are conducting a pre-race ticket sale for the Sunday, September 11 event.  The pre-sale will serve as a fundraiser, with 50% of the pre-race sale proceeds to be donated to the 2 groups.

Pre-sale tickets may be obtained at the following locations; The Toledo Police Museum, 2201 Kenwood Blvd. at Ottawa Park; the Toledo Firefighters Museum, 918 W. Sylvania Avenue; Toledo Firefighters Credit Union, 2275 W. Laskey; the Police Credit Union and Safety Building, 525 N. Erie Street; in downtown Toledo and at the 4280 N. Heatherdowns at Eastgate location.

A pre-race ceremony is being planned for the event, featuring vintage police and fire vehicles, as well as a color guard and a large American flag.  The track’s R & M Recycling Street Stocks will be in action with its Season Championship event, with the Hahn’s Collision 50 lap ARCA Truck Series feature also on the September 11 race card.

The EarSmart 100 lap race is the final event in the 5-race ARCA Allegiant Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series and will serve as a tune-up for the upcoming 23rd running of the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200, set for Saturday, October 1.

Dennis Strickland of Carleton, MI has a comfortable margin over 2-time defending Gold Cup champ Mike Root heading into Sunday afternoon’s event.  While each of the top 3 in the final points will receive a pair of round-trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Travel, the Gold Cup champion will get a test drive at Daytona International Speedway in December during the ARCA test, at the wheel of a car prepared by ARCA car owner Andy Hillenberg’s Fast Track High Performance Driving School.

The ARCA Truck Series has 21 Trucks entered to date, led by current Series point leader Paul Hahn.  Eric Huston leads Dennis Whisman by just 10 markers, with Mike Hammer and Cory McCaughey next in line as the ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stocks battle in their championship contest Sunday afternoon.

Race sponsor EarSmart will distribute free ear plugs to race fans at the track, while supplies last, on race day.

The speedway, located on Benore Road at the I-75/Alexis Road exit, will also extend an invitation to all current and retired City of Toledo police and firefighters, as well as all military personnel to be their guests for the September 11 race, which falls on the 10th anniversary of 9-11.  Proper service ID is required.

The spectator gates will open and practice begins for the race cars at 11 a.m., time trials are set for 12:30, the pre-race ceremony will take place at 1:45 p.m. and racing gets the green flag at 2 p.m.
