Trackside Tidbits by Debi Domby

Josh Bunting won his first career Street Stock A division feature of the season. “Finally! Half way through the season I couldn’t figure out the car. Tried a new spring and the car came around. Thanks to my family and crew.”

With his win, Bunting, breaks the streak that Scott Selmi had going of six wins. Selmi has won every feature he’s been in since the end of June (he missed the 100-lapper that Chad Guinn won, but oddly enough Scott’s dad Jim won the B division feature so the Selmi family has won seven consecutive weeks, I never did find out if a family had that many wins in a row, if anyone knows, send me an email.).

Tim Moore is on the brink of winning his first career A division championship. He leads Chad Guinn by 130 points.

Grant Hedges finished a career best 5 th. “Career high top 5 finish! I'm very proud of all of my crew guys. They have all worked so hard this year, and have been very patient with me as I've learned to drive these cars. The Flat Rock fans are an incredible group of people. Nobody loves racing like they do. Walking through the stands brought several high fives and pats on the back, many from people I have never met before, but have watched me grow and race this whole year. That’s what it is all about. We are finally hitting our stride at season end, and look forward to what’s ahead!”

Street Stock B division points leader, Jimmy Rae, won the B feature. “It’s been a roller coaster night. First I want to say I’m sorry to the #10 (James Pankow) team in the Figure 8 … I wouldn’t do that on purpose (crash him in the X during their feature earlier in the evening). I don’t drive like that. Now for the good part of the night, the car ran good in the feature and a good starting spot didn’t hurt. I want to thank my family and crew. And also Lakeshore Services, my new sponsor.” Jimmy takes a 55 point lead over Mark Lavoie and a 60 point lead over Anthony Camilli. If Rae holds off it will be his fourth championship (He also won in 2002, 2004 and 2010).

Dennis Whisman had a great weekend, winning the Figure 8 feature both at Flat Rock and the previous night at Toledo … and he won them in two different cars. Friday night’s win was in his familiar white #1 and Saturday at Flat Rock in the car normally driven by Jerry Lee Jr. “It’s about time I finally got a feature here. We won last night at Toledo. I want to thank my car owner, Rich Lee, and all my sponsors. This car’s fast. I also want to thank my brother Joey for setting up my car and then he drove tonight too.”

One down, one to go … Jeremy Vanderhoof won his second career Toledo Figure 8 championship (his first was in 2006) and carries a 180 point lead over Greg Studt for the 2011 championship… he also won Flat Rock’s championship last year.

Eric Lee will go for his fourth Late Model Championship this week. He won his other championships in 2004, 2008 and 2009. He leads Dennis Strickland by 35 points and Paul Pelletier by 110 points.

Congrats to Ron Allen on winning his X Sportsmans Championship at Toledo on Friday. It was an amazing season. “We had a great year at Toledo Speedway. In 10 races we got 10 fast times, five wins, four seconds and one race rained out after heat races, I got to thank the crew, Michelle, Gary, Charlie, Jimmy, Mikey, and my mom and sister for comin’ to all my races. And all my fans for their support … good job all year. The best race cars,  Dillon Race Cars, Fastime Race Engines and Parts, Royal Truck & Trailer and Bonner Engines. It was Ron’s sixth Sportsman Championship, he also won it in 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

Also congrats to Mike Marlow on his 4-cylinder Championship.
