ACTION RETURNS TO FLAT ROCK-- NO RAIN!

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - August 27, 2011) - Mother Nature smiled upon Flat Rock Speedway for Saturday night’s Corrigan Oil Kids Night.  A good crowd turned out to see 89 cars compete in the 4-division race card.  Children 14 and under were admitted free and each received a free hot dog, chips and a drink, courtesy of Sherwood Foods, Jim’s Butcher Shop, Dr.Pepper-Snapple Group and Seyfert’s Snacks.  The track has been bothered by rain 4 of the last 6 Saturday nights, including 2 washouts the past 2 weeks.

Dennis Whisman, Josh Bunting, Jimmy Rae, Ray McClure and Stephen Bobek captured the feature race wins for their respective divisions.

Whisman made it back-to-back ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 wins on the weekend, taking Friday night’s race at Toledo and leading wire to wire to win the 20 lap event at Flat Rock Saturday.  At the wheel of the car normally piloted by Jerry Lee, Dennis was strong and stayed out in front of the 18 car field to top Robbie Loving, Jeremy Vanderhoof, Greg Studt, Gary Cronenwett, Jeremy Miller, Dan Apperson, Steve Chartrand, Randy Roberts and Sam Hall.  The race was halted on lap 2 when James Pankow’s car stalled at the intersection and was slammed into by Jimmy Rae and later Nick Bradley.  All drivers were ok, but were done for the night.  Vanderhoof, the current point leader, set fast time at 20:467.  Joe Whisman, Miller and Tim Murphy took the heat race wins.

Josh Buntin8-27_fr_ss_18.jpgg applied the pressure to Danny Slater and grabbed the lead on lap 20 on his way to his first win of 2011 and his second-career win at the track in the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main.  Slater, looking for his first win, led the event through the first 19 laps as the 24 car field was dicing back and forth right behind him in tight formation.  Bunting looked to the low side as the laps wound down, found his opening with 5 to go and grabbed the victory.  Rich Frantz made a late charge and took second, third was Tim Moore, fourth was Slater and fifth went to Grant Hedges, followed by Chad Guinn, Tadek Stadniczuk, Scott Selmi, Frank Jiovani and Dave Tanner.

8-27_fr_ss_1.jpgIt was all Jimmy Rae in the 15 lap Street Stock B Main, as the former champ sailed along out front all by himself to claim the win and add to his point lead.  Rich Abel broke loose from his 7th starting spot and got to second as the checkered flag fell.  Anthony Camilli, Steve Theobald, Mike Kieffer, Mark Lavoie, Jimmy Little, Aaron Greathouse, Don Roberts and Tony Camilli were next in line at the stripe.  Tim Moore set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts Fast Time for the 41 car field at 13:428, while Abel was the quick man for the B Main cars at 14:221.  Landon Schuster, Rob Moore, Ian Jezylo, Kieffer and Lavoie claimed the heat race wins.

8-27_fr_4_cylinder_44.jpgRay McClure posted his first win of the season, edging out Brad Turner to win the 20 lap ARCA Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder main event.  Ray darted into the lead at the onset of the race and Turner came up to challenge him for the duration of the contest.  McClure stayed tucked into the low lane, while Turner used the high groove and ended up settling for second.  David Price, Billy Cronce III, Scott Marshall and Mario Rossi trailed the lead duo at the finish.  Price took the heat win and Turner set fast time at 14:829.

8-27_fr_dwarf_07.jpgThe MCR Dwarf Cars made their annual visit to “The Rock” and a strong 24 car field made the trip to the ¼ mile paved oval.  Youngster Stephen Bobek sailed by race-long leader Kevin Ayers and maintained the lead after several yellow flags to take the win in the 25 lap main event.  The racing featured 3 and 4 wide battles for much of the contest.  Ayers held on for second, Rob Roney came from mid-pack to take third, Jon Wylie did the same and came home fourth, with fifth to Junior Gould.  Josh Tinker, Greg Campbell, Jeff Slayton, Todd Getz and Jim Miller completed the top ten finishers.  Ayers, Craig Curtis and Bobek notched the heat race victories.
