WHISMAN HITS DAILY DOUBLE; ARNOLD JR. ALSO GRABS TOLEDO VICTORY

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 5, 2011) - Sunshine and blue skies visited Toledo Speedway for the start of the August 2011 race schedule Friday evening. Dennis Whisman notched 2 feature wins and Dave Arnold Jr. took a victory and both drivers visited the Sun Drop Soda Victory Lane. Parts Galore sponsored the night of racing at the ½ mile paved oval.
Whisman hit pay dirt Friday, taking both the ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature and the ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stock main. In the 20 lap Figure 8 contest, Sam Hall was headed to his 2nd feature win of the season until he looped his machine after leading the first 15 laps. Whisman, tucked in on Sam’s bumper, sailed around a spinning Hall and claimed the win over Gary Cronenwett, Dan Apperson, Jeremy Vanderhoof, Robbie Loving, Hall, Greg Studt, Randy Roberts, James Rae, Howard Kelley Jr. (in his first Figure 8 race in Rob Martel’s #16) and Nick Bradley. Vanderhoof and Whisman were the heat race winners.
“The Rebel” Whisman then jumped into his Street Stock machine, chased down race-long leader Matt Ringger on lap 15 of the Street Stock 25 lap feature and picked up his 2nd win of the year in the class. Eric Huston began to challenge Whisman for the lead, tapped Whisman and sent him around on lap 20, which brought out the yellow flag. Eric took responsibility for the incident, giving Whisman his spot back. Dennis took off on the re-start and took the checkered flag ahead of Ringger, Mike Hammer, Cory McCaughey and Luke Davis. Eric Huston, Kyle Huston, Dennis Helsel, TJ Miller and Brad Turner completed the top ten finishers. Eric Huston set fast time at 11:633. Don Cox and Pat Fields took the heat race wins.
The 35 lap ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman feature race saw just 1 yellow flag as Dave Arnold Jr. took his first win of the season in Steve McMahon’s #75. Greg Stilwell took charge at the green flag and held the point until lap 7 when Arnold Jr. steamed by on the outside lane. Dave built up a sizable lead as the 18 car field battled for position. Kyle DeLisle, coming from 6th spot, reeled in Arnold and the duo got away from the pack and had a comfortable advantage. A lap 23 yellow for a Kent McCloskey spin bunched the field and gave Ron Allen a chance to go for the win. The top 3 took off on the restart as DeLisle took a couple of looks at the lead, but Allen slid under Kyle on lap 28 to grab second. As the laps wound down, Arnold was up to the task as he held on for the win over Allen, DeLisle, Howard Kelley Jr. and Jim Froling. Mike Young, Stilwell, Norm Lewallen, Kenny McKay Jr. and Scot Bunge were next in line at the finish. Allen set fast time at 17:347, while Stilwell and Bunge took the heat race wins.
