Flat Rock Gearing Up For Biggest Race of Season Saturday

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 28, 2011) - The field of entries now stands at 34 cars for this Saturday’s running of the 4th Annual Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by CGS Imaging at Flat Rock Speedway. The event is leg number 3 of the 5 race Allegiant Gold Cup Series between Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways.

As the race teams prepare for Flat Rock’s biggest race on the 2011 schedule, race fans will want to arrive early to take part in the many activities that will be a part of the Stan Yee Memorial race.  Every fan will receive a free “Heroes” card, a collage of photos of the drivers that drove for the late Stan Yee Sr. over his 40-plus years as a championship car owner.  Marv Parenteau, Danny Byrd, Chuck Roumell, Steve Lee and Joy Fair will all be at the track to greet fans and sign autographs prior to the event.

Former Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway competitor Mike Smith has donated an incredible pencil drawing, which depicts the late John Anderson and several of his rides during his storied short track racing days, including his Stan Yee machine.  Anderson began his career with his #72 Figure 8 car.  John drove the #0 car owned by Denny McNutt of Toledo for a number of seasons before moving into the seat in the famous #33 of Stan Yee.  That duo collected numerous big-event feature wins throughout the Midwest, including the Glass City 200 at Toledo in 1974.   Later on, John drove for Russ Draime in the #30 Late Model.

Mike will donate this drawing to benefit the Driven Women’s group that supports the racing families at Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways.  The group has come to the aid of several families in their time of need and the raffle for the drawing will assist them to continue their efforts.  Each year Smith will unveil a new drawing featuring Yee and one of his drivers that piloted his cars over a 40 year-plus career.

Tickets will be available in the pit area and in the grandstand area both Friday, July 29 at Toledo and Saturday, July 30 at Flat Rock.  Tickets are 8 for $5 or an “arms length for $10.  Each ticket purchaser will receive a small print of the original artwork. The drawing will take place Saturday night at Flat Rock.

Some unsuspecting race fan will be a big hero to one of the drivers that is entered in Saturday’s race.  Pat Moran of Moran Chevrolet will award a set of racing tires to the lucky driver in a reverse raffle type of drawing prior to the 150 lap contest.  Each driver will enter the grandstand area and select a race fan to draw out an envelope from the hopper.  The last envelope left will hold the winning car number of the driver that wins the 4 tires, courtesy of Moran Chevrolet.  The fan that selects that last envelope will also win a prize.

Stan Yee Memorial t-shirts and decals will also be on sale in the grandstand and pit areas.  Shirts are just $10 each for most sizes, while decals are just $1.

The event will pay $2533 to win and $533 to start, with drivers from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Canada expected.  Several bonus awards, with a requirement to have a paid pre-entry to collect the awards could boost the winning driver’s payday over $3500.  Moran Chevrolet will award a set of four (4) Hoosier Racing Tires to a driver in a random draw that will include race fans, former ARCA official Jack Wyman has posted a total of $500 to be split among the four drivers that travel from the greatest distance to compete in the 150, while Fastime Racing Engines and Parts will award $100 for the fast time. Lap money at $5 per lap will also be up for grabs.

The track’s Parts Galore Figure 8 and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock classes will also be in competition, with feature events only for the July 30 race date.

The 2011 Indianapolis 500 Chevrolet Camaro convertible pace car replica courtesy of Moran Chevrolet will pace the field for the 150 lap contest.  CGS Imaging, as part of their support of the race, has created a race logo and has decorated Flat Rock’s grandstand area with numerous banners and signage.

The pit area will open at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, with practice for the Late Models set to begin at 3.  Time trials begin at 5 and racing starts at 7 p.m.  To view the current entry list and lap money list along with photos of the Camaro pace car and for additional information, log on to www.flatrockspeedway.com.
