Drivers Getting Ready For Stan Yee Memorial July 30

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan – July 22, 2011) - The winners of four of the top outlaw Late Model events in the area have all filed entries for the Saturday, July 30 running of the 4th Annual Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by CGS Imaging at Flat Rock Speedway.  The event is leg number 3 of the 5 race Allegiant Gold Cup Series between Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways.

The speedway will host a final tune-up race for the biggest race of the season Saturday, July 23 as part of the Glass Unlimited sponsored-night of racing.  The Figure 8’s and Street Stocks will also be in action.

Defending Gold Cup champion Mike Root captured the Stan Perry Memorial at Angola, IN Speedway in June; Harold Fair Jr. won the Dixie Classic at the Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, MI last week and Jack Varney Jr. was victorious at the 100 lap event at the Owosso, MI Speedway last Saturday night.  Dennis Strickland took the 100 lap contest at Flat Rock June 25.

Those 4 drivers lead an impressive entry list that is shaping up as the July 30 race date nears.  With 22 cars already entered as of July 22, a field of 25-30 cars is expected for the 150 lap classic.  2009 race winner Mike Luberda Jr. will make the trip to Flat Rock, Indiana star Scott Hantz has also filed his entry and Dakota Carlson will return to Flat Rock after finishing in the top ten in his first race at Flat Rock in June.

Ironically, the winners of the first 3 Stan Yee Memorial races all notched their initial wins at Flat Rock in this race.  Justin Schroeder scored his first-ever Flat Rock and Late Model win in 2008, first-time Flat Rock visitor Mike Luberda Jr. captured the title in 2009, and Mike Root was victorious in the 2010 version of the race, also his first win at “The Rock”.

The event will pay $2533 to win and $533 to start, with drivers from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Canada expected.  Several bonus awards, with a requirement to have a paid pre-entry to collect the awards could boost the winning driver’s payday over $3500.  Moran Chevrolet will award a set of four (4) Hoosier Racing Tires to a driver in a random draw that will include race fans, former ARCA official Jack Wyman has posted a total of $500 to be split among the four drivers that travel from the greatest distance to compete in the 150, while Fastime Racing Engines and Parts will award $100 for the fast time. Lap money at $5 per lap will also be up for grabs.

The track’s Parts Galore Figure 8 and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock classes will also be in competition, with feature events only for the July 30 race date.

The 2011 Indianapolis 500 Chevrolet Camaro convertible pace car replica courtesy of Moran Chevrolet will pace the field for the 150 lap contest.  CGS Imaging, as part of their support of the race, has created a race logo and has decorated Flat Rock’s grandstand area with numerous banners and signage.

Stan Yee was a fixture in Midwest Late Model racing from the 1960s forward. Both on dirt and the asphalt, Stan’s famed No. 33 cars won countless races. Drivers such as Marv Parenteau, Joe Ruttman, Artie Sommers, Joy Fair, the late John Anderson, Rick Sheppard, Danny Byrd, Harold Cook, Chuck Roumell, Steve Lee, and Stan’s son, Stan Jr., piloted Yee’s Collision machines.  Stan Jr. won the 2003 Flat Rock Late Model crown guided by his father.  Parenteau, Byrd, Roumell and Lee will all be in attendance at the event to greet the drivers and race fans.

An open practice is scheduled for Wednesday, July 27 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for race cars of all types. The pit area will open at 4 p.m.  The pit area will open at 1:30 p.m. on July 30, with practice for the Late Models set to begin at 3.  Time trials begin at 5 and racing starts at 7 p.m.  The current entry list and lap money list is below.  To see photos of the Camaro pace car and for additional information, log on to www.flatrockspeedway.com.
