Toledo Adds Road Course Race To August 12 Show; Slight Schedule Changes Also Announced

(TOLEDO, Ohio - July 14, 2011) - With the insistence of fans and racers, the increasingly-popular “Road Course” race will be added to the Friday, August 12 race card at Toledo Speedway.  The June event saw 21 cars start the race, which uses portions of the ¼ mile, ½ mile and pit road at the Glass City facility.

The race begins with the field taking the green and entering part of the ¼ mile oval, going around the chicane in the center of the track and headed down pit road.  With room for 2-wide racing on the pit lane, the cars sail up onto the backstretch of the ½ mile and fly around turns 3 and 4, only to have to get on the brakes to enter the short track and make the quick trip in the short chute before hitting the chicane and then back down on pit road for another lap of action!

The field consists of a variety of cars-Sportsman, Figure 8, Street Stock, Enduro and 4 Cylinders.  June race winner Tom O’Leary IV wheeled his Sportsman machine, followed by Anthony Terris in his Figure 8 car and Scot Bunge in his Street Stock.  With no distinct advantage due to the change in the course and the chicane, the event has proven to be fun for the racers and extremely entertaining for race fans.

The August 12 date now consists of leg number 4 of the ARCA Allegiant Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series 100 lap contest.  The July 100 lap show saw a record-setting run by JR Roahrig in an event that saw no yellow flags and great competition for the entire distance.  The ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stocks and the Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinders will also be in competition, along with the added Road Course race.

The track also has 1 more Road Course race scheduled for Saturday, September 24, which was included on the original schedule released last winter.

In other schedule changes, the Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder division championship event will now be held on Friday evening, August 26.  That contest was originally set for September 11, but will now be moved to the August 26 date, their final race of the season at Toledo.

Rules for the Road Course race are available by calling the track office at 419-727-1100.  Log onto the track webpage at www.toledospeedway.com for additional information.  The pit area opens at 2:30, practice begins at 4:30, time trials are at 6:15 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m. for the August 12 event.
