DTS Street Stocks Get Ready For Sun Drop 100 Saturday At Flat Rock

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 12, 2011) - A field of 35-40 DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks is expected for Saturday’s Sun Drop 100 lap feature at Flat Rock Speedway.  The longest race of the season for the division will see the winner take home $1000 for their efforts.  Flat Rock’s Parts Galore Figure 8 division will also be in action at “The Rock” Saturday, July 16.

The track will also stage their annual Christmas in July prize giveaway with special guest Santa Claus on hand to distribute prizes to lucky race fans.  Separate drawings will be held for both children and adult prizes.  Fans will enter the drawing upon their entrance to the speedway Saturday night.  To donate a prize, please call the track at 734-782-2480.

Flat Rock’s Street Stock class has been in weekly competition at the ¼ mile paved oval since the division began in 1977.  Despite the economic conditions, the car counts have averaged in the mid 30’s up to 40 for the 2011 season.  Known for its competitiveness, the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks are now preparing for their biggest race of the season.

The 100 lap main event will run straight through and only green flag laps will count.  Pit crew members will be staged in the infield area should a pit stop be needed for the 24 car field.  The division divides into the A Main and B Main each night via qualifying times.  A 30 lap B Main race, along with heat races are on the schedule for the July 16 event.  Current point leader Tim Moore is the defending race champion for the 100, while James Rae took top honors in the 30 lap B Main in 2010.

The track’s Parts Galore Figure 8 cars will also be on hand to compete in heat races and a 20 lap feature race on the Figure 8 course.  The “Motor City Madmen” have been a part of weekly Saturday night racing at Flat Rock since 1962.  Dick “Little Richard” Simmons was Flat Rock’s first Figure 8 champion.

All tickets will go on sale at 4 p.m. race day.  The pit area will open at 3, practice begins at 4, time trials are set for 5:45 and racing begins at 7 p.m.  The front gates will open at 4 p.m.

The track is located on Telegraph Road, 1 mile south of Flat Rock and 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275.  The phone number is 734-782-2480.
