FIREWORKS LIGHT UP FLAT ROCK SKIES FOR BUDWEISER KABOOOM NIGHT

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 9, 2011) - Floral City Beverage and Budweiser presented the Kabooom Night Saturday at Flat Rock Speedway, treating the fans to a great fireworks spectacular to end the evening.  The race teams also put on a show for the good crowd on hand on a beautiful summer night.  Dan Ford Jr., Robbie Loving, Scott Selmi and Rich Abel took the feature wins and were presented with trophies and a Budweiser mirror in victory lane ceremonies.

3 drivers took turns leading the 50 lap ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model feature, with Dan Ford Jr. notching the win.  Veteran Royce Cornett took the lead at the green flag and stayed on the point for 9 laps.  Ricky Kargel pushed his machine up to the high lane and got by Royce on lap 10 and built up a sizable lead, only to have 3 minor yellow flags erase his advantage each time.  After a lap 23 re-start, Paul Pelletier and Ford Jr. began to reel in Kargel.  The trio raced hard for the lead as Ford wheeled up to the high groove and nosed out front on lap 47 on his way to his first win of the season.  Pelletier slipped by Kargel with 2 laps to go to grab second, Kargel was third, Joe Hawes fourth and Cornett fifth, followed by Rick Sheppard, Dennis Strickland, Stan Yee Jr., Derek Wiley and Steve Peters.

The race got off to a tough start when several cars tangled on the original green flag.  The red flag came out as the track was cleared and repairs made to the cars.  Terry Bogusz, Greg Studt and Ron Allen were eliminated in the accident, ending their nights.  Current point leader Eric Lee also went in for repairs, but encountered a flat tire on the restart and retired to the infield early in the contest.  Cornett, Nick Grodi and Sheppard took the heat race wins.  Lee posted the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 11:714 for the 19 car field.

7-9_fr_f8_16.jpgRobbie Loving got a jump at the green and zipped in and out of intersection traffic on several laps to record the victory in the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature event.  Loving took several shots at the X, thrilling the crowd with his moves as he picked up his 2nd win of the season at Flat Rock.  Anthony Terris drove a great race and stayed within striking distance to take second, third was Greg Studt, with fourth to Jeremy Vanderhoof, while Billy Earley was fifth.  Dennis Whisman, Jeremy Miller, Chris Cox, James Rae and Randy Roberts completed the top ten.  Loving and Sam Hall were the heat winners, while Vanderhoof set fast time at 20:877.

7-9_ss_24_and_88.jpgThree became four Saturday night for Scott Selmi as the second-generation driver claimed his 4th win in a row by taking the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock main event.  Scott started third in the race as Rob Moore gained the advantage on the start and took the lead.  Moore’s car encountered a slight push, giving Scott the opportunity he needed.  Selmi snared the number 1 spot on lap 19 on his way to the win.  Tim Moore also got by his brother Rob in the final laps to take second, as did Tadek Stadniczuk who took third.  Rob was fourth and fifth went to Landon Schuster, followed by Rich Frantz, Chad Guinn, Dave Tanner, Danny Slater and Scot Bunge.

7-9_fr_ss_b-main_50.jpgRich Abel used the 2nd groove to go by race leader Anthony Camilli to win the 15 lap Street Stock B Main contest, win number 2 of the year.  Abel’s car went up in puff of smoke in victory lane.  Camilli held on for second, Aaron Greathouse recorded his best run with a third, Jimmy Little was fourth and Darrell Krause fifth.  James Rae, Steve Searles, Michael Phillips, Mark Lavoie and Tony Camilli were next in line at the checkered flag.  Frantz set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast time for the 37 car field at 13:505, while Searles led the B cars at 14:360.  Josh Bunting, Al Hasenfratz, Paul Falkenburg, Robbie Loving and Anthony Camilli took the heat race wins.

Saturday, July 16 is the biggest race of the season for the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock class at Flat Rock as they battle for the top prize of $1000 in the Sun Drop 100.  The 100 lap contest will start 24 cars.  The B Main cars will go 30 laps, with the Parts Galore Figure 8’s also in action.
